In healthy cities, postal carriers don't block the bike lane, they use it.

If you build bicycle infrastructure, people will use it.
The latest evaluation of bike lane projects in Boston continues to show that if you build bike infrastructure, people will use it.

The nitty gritty of these examples isn't important. It's simply evidence that adjusting design can change driver behavior.

Traffic counts don't always have to go up. Unless we cause them to do so with design decisions.

Your regular reminder that despite the faded lines and leftover sign, there are still no bike lanes on Cleveland St, 8 years after they were removed by the previous councilmember.

Anyone have a spreadsheet of sidewalk and bikeway funding over the past few years @jerewoo.bsky.social? Seems like this is a decrease.

Great infrastructure design induces demand.
Bad video quality, good traffic.

Under 40°F and dark, but Bryant is still hoppin’ w/ bike commuters!

We love to see it.

Just now on a 4 block stretch of 40th St (2 way protected bikeway) as it’s getting dark & a bit chilly (feels like temp is 39°F) I saw:
-3 Urban Arrows (front loader e cargo bikes)
-2 long tail e cargo bikes
-a Burley trailer
-a 12/13yo riding solo

We get the traffic we design & build for.

If we are serious about pedestrian safety there's really only one way to ensure that vehicles will slow down and pay attention.. & that is to build infrastructure that forces drivers to slow down and pay attention.

There may be outcry, but drivers will adjust to traffic calming. They always do.

Today’s episode of “there is a better way.” Helsinki went a full year without a car-related fatality. For the 90th million time, we ask-why not here? Why can’t we have the healthy, safe, secure, efficient, civilized goods others have: schools free of mass shootings, safe sidewalks, health care…
Helsinki just went a full year without a single traffic death
The capital city is Finnish’ed with car-related fatalities.

Did have to ask the security guard to move his car over a couple feet, but I appreciated the clear signage indicating that the bike lane is open today and will be closed tomorrow between 2-8pm only. Definitely an improvement from previous CMA's when this route has been inaccessible all week.

I drove through this today. It is a very active, two-way greenway crossing.

There was NOTHING telling me as a driver to look both ways. Nothing.

Despite being the vulnerable users, bicyclists and peds are held to a higher standard of safety every time so we can avoid motor vehicle blame and delay.

When you hear someone say we can’t do active or public transportation in the US, just know we are the global outlier - an aberrant society missing something that the rest of the world has already discovered or never forgot
This is interesting — a recent study of mode share (the % share of transportation trips by car, transit, walking, biking etc) relative to city size and income levels in almost 800 cities in 61 countries. Interesting results. HT @davidzipper.bsky.social
