The bulky, green sidewalk scaffolding that wraps around many buildings in New York City is as familiar a sight as rush-hour traffic — and just as reviled. But on Tuesday, city officials unveiled six designs that reimagine the structures. nyti.ms/3XxvNLU

We're finally shedding the ugly green scaffolding!

Back in April, I passed a new law to overhaul NYC's broken scaffolding system.

Today, @NYC_Buildings unveiled new designs "in the biggest reimagining of the city’s ubiquitous sidewalk sheds in decades."

Earlier this year, the City Council, led by @keithpowersnyc.bsky.social and @ebottcher.bsky.social, passed a legislative package that provides a strong foundation to get scaffolding down and improve safety and design.

But Mayor Adams has barely put it to use.

We gathered on 34th & Broadway, with a backdrop of buses crawling along, stuck in midtown traffic.

We were joined by NYC DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez, Senator @bradhoylmansigal.bsky.social, AM @micahlasher.bsky.social, & CM @keithpowersnyc.bsky.social.

Glad to join the effort to make outdoor dining year-round again.

This would make it much simpler and cheaper for our small businesses.

More good news.

Just 6 weeks ago, we approved a new plan for Midtown South to allow for office-to-housing conversions.

The first new project is ALREADY on its way with 107 new units:

New office-to-residential conversions are helping to drive new housing + repurpose outdated office buildings.

Thousands of new apartments on the way.

With just *two* days left, here's a new idea from my ambitious plan to add 100,000 new homes.

Let's reform the land use process to give the BP final authority to approve, modify, or reject projects.

It'll help ensure good projects don't just sit on the shelves. #50Days50Ideas
