This agenda you speak of is great. But right now, you are ignoring paraprofessionals – most of whom come from these “historically overlooked communities” you claim to serve.

Make this right and support the #RESPECTCheck, Speaker Adams!
Today, I sat down with Dan Mannarino to talk about how New York City Council has provided steady leadership and results for New Yorkers over the last four years, while advancing an agenda that supports historically overlooked communities.

Thanks to the NYS cellphone ban in schools, we are already seeing more positive classrooms & improved student engagement.

UFT is committed to fighting for policies like these that prioritize the needs of our members, and we were proud to push for this policy.

Our Elementary Schools VP, Karen Alford, knows firsthand that our NYC paras are crucial – but they are underpaid.

This cannot go on any longer, especially as school staff dwindles and care for students with special needs continues to rise.

Paraprofessionals are critical for the wellbeing & growth of each NYC student.

But their starting salaries are far too low: $32,000.

Passing the RESPECT Check, getting annual support for paras, will make an incredible difference.

Let’s get it done! #ParaRESPECT
