ICE’s separation of 6-year-old Yuanxin from his father is indefensible. Yuanxin JUST started first grade at a public school in Astoria.

This cruelty endangers our communities and makes our city less safe.

It must end now.

Trump’s cuts are already forcing nonprofits that deliver essential care and support to scale back services and lay off staff—putting organizations at risk of shutting down altogether.

We must protect our social safety net that New Yorkers rely on.

This is a major victory for workers in our city.

Congratulations to the thousands of Starbucks workers who will receive restitution after years of unstable schedules. Every worker deserves fair treatment, predictable hours, and basic dignity.

On #WorldAIDSDay, we reaffirm our commitment to combatting the prejudice and stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS and ensuring access for all who need treatment.

Together, we can and must eradicate HIV/AIDS. Thank you to all the organizations at the frontlines of this fight.

Our city mourns the passing of @fdny.bsky.social Deputy Chief James Riches, a hero who spent months at Ground Zero searching for his son and decades fighting for 9/11 survivors and their families.

New York will never forget his service, advocacy, and sacrifice.

Trump’s ICE is tearing children away from their families.

More than 600 kids have been sent into federal detention this year, the highest number on record.

This is barbaric. Children are innocent, and separating them from loved ones does nothing to keep our communities safe.

Saddened to learn of the passing of Viola Ford Fletcher, one of the last remaining survivors of the Tulsa Race Massacre and a fierce keeper of our history. We must continue to carry forward her legacy, grounding our fight in history and truth. May her memory be a blessing to us all.

I’m relieved this baseless attack against @newyorkstateag.bsky.social has been thrown out. Trump is weaponizing the Justice Department for political retribution, but the court has made clear his abuse of power will not stand.

Tish has always led with courage & integrity. New Yorkers stand with her.

Access to doula care can be the difference between life and death, especially for Black and brown mothers. That’s why New York City Council fought to provide free doula services in underserved neighborhoods across NYC.

Now, Trump’s Medicaid cuts threaten to strip mothers of this essential care.

For decades, Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez has delivered bold, principled leadership for working families, immigrant communities, New Yorkers, and Puerto Rico.

Her retirement will mark the end of a historic chapter. We’re grateful for her leadership and unwavering commitment to equity and justice.

Tierra Walker should be alive today.

Her death illuminates the public health emergency that is maternal mortality, which disproportionately harms Black, low-income, and other women of color due to the intersecting injustices of racism, lack of access to health care, and structural disinvestment.

Our city must budget responsibly and transparently for the long term. As we review the November Plan, I remain focused on protecting our school communities and ensuring that the Administration’s investments reflect the real needs of New Yorkers rather than unfunded commitments.
The Council’s revenue forecasts continue to be affirmed in the FY26 November Plan, showing steady economic growth. The Council is committed to reviewing this plan closely to ensure school budgets remain stable, and that resources are directed to the needs of New Yorkers across the city.
