This morning Tom Homan announced operation metro surge would end soon. I’ll believe it when I see it. We still need people out and staying vigilant until every last agent is gone and everyone wrongly taken to Texas or anyone else is back home.

It’s been, um, a busy week.

Any reporting on what our mayor promised Homan?

What did Sheriff Witt promise Homan?

What did Walz promise Homan?
Following this incident I followed up with Mayor Frey to ask for more information about what had happened. His chief of staff confirmed that the Mayor and his administration had a meeting with border czar Tom Homan. I assume the ICE vehicles outside were part of Homan’s convoy.

I want to believe it so bad but I do not trust that agency at all.
IF they *actually* leave, it is because Trump is thinking about the optics in a midterm year. The only criticism he has had of ICE is that he doesn't like people seeing all the videos.

Also this is a huge victory for the citizens and they have provided rthe rest of us with a blueprint.
Tom Homan: “I have proposed, and President Trump has concurred, that this surge operation conclude…We will continue to enforce Title A immigration law throughout this nation…Those who say we are backing down from immigration enforcement or the promise of mass deportations, you are simply wrong.”

What this man is describing would seem to constitute crimes against humanity under international law. Other governments could and should contest the abuses he’s describing the U.S. government committing against migrants.
“It’s just a horrible, horrible, horrible place,” he said of his detention camp. “I’m not in fear of the other inmates. I’m afraid of the staff. They’re capable of anything.”

I will not support any funding deal that puts money in the hands of Stephen Miller, Kristi Noem, and this violent agency. Defund and abolish ICE now.

Listen to this. Not a penny more for this. Abolish and prosecute anyone who had anything to do with it.
"A modern-day concentration camp ... People have been killed by the staff here." Irish citizen Seamus Culleton has been in ICE detention since September, despite having a valid work permit and his own business in the US.

700 agents leaving Minnesota to terrorize a less organized community in a less prepared state is not a win. 700 agents being summarily fired would be a small win.

this unprecedented momentum behind a single issue sure might be a useful fulcrum to try and wrench this country back from over the brink
74% of Democrats support abolishing ICE, with 53% *strongly* supporting it, according to YouGov polling from last month.

Weak calls for "reform" are coming from *elected* Democrats like Chuck, not the average Democratic voter.
Democrats want commonsense reform for ICE:

End the roving patrols and racial profiling.

Take accountability and abide by the same rules as local police.

Masks need to come off, body cameras need to stay on—no secret police in the United States of America.

The entire minnesota delegation needs to be at Whipple by lunch.
BREAKING: Judge Jia Cobb issues a TRO blocking DHS Sec Noem's Jan 8 memo purporting to require 7-day notices by members of Congress to perform oversight visits to immigration detention facilities.

The effect is that congressional oversight visits are allowed on request, as is required by Sec. 527.

The ICE surge has disrupted business. Minnesota’s top economic official is ‘very concerned.’
In an interview, DEED Commissioner Matt Varilek spoke at length about how ICE is affecting businesses and making the job of growing the state’s economy more difficult.

There were 3800 children in ice custody in December. We have no idea how many they have now. This began with Obama and only increased under Biden. This administration has increased holding children in camps.

1 less now that Liam is home.

Bring them all home. Close the camps.

DFL legislators need to insist on a compensation fund of tens of millions of dollars to offset economic harms of the ICE siege. It infuriates me that Mercado Central has to hold a $500,000 bake sale to hold onto their building. Tens of fucking millions.
