putting it out into the universe’s algorithms to keep me informed on this turbotax/chatGPT stuff. i don’t use chatGPT. i want to stay informed of how bad an idea it will be to use turbotax if i don’t accept/turn on whatever integration, or if that will even be possible 🥲

i listened to serena terry’s “secret life of an uncool mom” bc i like her mammy banter skits. at first i was not sure i liked it for anything more than the derry accent but it did make me cry and overall i think it was enjoyable in like a beach read category, best experienced on audiobook for sure.

Respect Alice Wong’s call here:
“When I am in public spaces and see most people unmasked either because they think the virus is a hoax, that masking is virtue signaling & a sign of weakness, aren't thinking about it, or that they simply don’t care, I feel like an expendable burden not worth saving.”
COVID Isn’t Going Anywhere. Masking Up Could Save My Life.

Just an incalculable loss from which we won’t soon recover.

Alice was the best of us and I hope we all do (or keep doing) the kind of good work that burnishes her memory.

a lot of these reveal the failure to understand AI doesn’t know anything, it *puts together word patterns based on the patterns it’s been taught.* a surprise racism is probably because of training materials, not that you missed a dog whistle in your writing (ouch for the one about child abuse 😢)

there’s a link to the fanfic on AO3, with fic carefully curated by authors who only have a story (or 2) for 831. one brave soul whose portfolio otherwise includes tags like nonconsensual drug use, cannibalism, and body horror, has invaded with essentially a shitpost story. ketonebodies is my hero.
Also sounds like people who don’t understand books. “I want to set my books up so nobody needs to talk about them online or writes fanfic” is such a wild thing for someone to say if they want to make money.
I’ll say this much: This reads exactly like what it is: people who discovered romance five years ago and decided they had all kinds of amazing new ideas to “fix” it. Connections between books? That feel kind of cozy to the reader? How did no one ever think of that?? www.nytimes.com/2025/11/13/b...

when i first saw the vance clip earlier it was a quote skeet that called it out as nazi rhetoric and i said oh yup that checks out, of course it does, but i didn’t expect something this…banal? this pop cultural? i put animal stickers on envelopes to my niece and nephew. this is…wow i hate history*

Masking helps stop disabled people like me dying, being excluded from society, and avoids passing on this kind of preventable illness. But if that’s not worth the tradeoff for you, consider protecting yourself. Just think about if you really need your face uncovered while sat silently on a train

I get why a lot of non-disabled people want to pretend respiratory illnesses don’t exist, but as we’re coming up on another event I can’t safely attend, I encourage you to just THINK about wearing a mask at events - or at least on the train/ plane there, where there’s probably no reason not to

The city needs to do better because this is just going to get worse with the discriminatory changes being made to federal procurement. 7% to BIPOC- and women-owned is absurd, most contracting goals are larger than that so either the city is behind the curve or it’s too lax with exemptions…
spokesman-recorder.com/2025/11/07/m... Minneapolis’ contracting system is broken. From 2016–2023, BIPOC- and women-owned businesses made up 24% of qualified contractors but got just 7% of city contracts. The election’s over, but equity work isn’t
Mpls BIPOC-Owned Businesses Call City Contracting Unfair
Minneapolis BIPOC-owned businesses say city contracts favor White male firms despite equity goals. Leaders propose reforms for transparency and fair access.
