I still can't get over this. I had *considered* that NVIDIA might have done some creative accounting before today, but now they're putting out four-page-long memos that read like a dog barking at itself in the mirror, I have to wonder! I just have to wonder

Here's the thing: the problem here isn't that NVIDIA is doing circular accounting (necessarily), it's that receivables are growing and so is inventory, which makes people worried things are being shipped without payment. It could be fine!

I believed things were fine more before I read this memo.
I mean, it'd be even funnier if they didn't even realize they were doing circular accounting with all of these deals, so this was totally sincere on their part. It would really underline how much this is run by people who are way out of their depth given the scale of everything they're involved in.

People keep insisting you can buy whistles cheaper than this, but I've yet to find them. Even bulk purchasing them on Alibaba comes in around $0.22, if you order more than 5000 thousand, and I doubt that includes shipping.
Not 100% sure of that. A roll of black SUNLU PLA costs $11–13.99—less if you buy it in bulk. You can get 250 4g whistles from a role, resulting in a unit cost of 4-5 cents. Plus quality is better bc they can be printed as a single piece.

Unless the robot car industry starts self regulating, the ever-increasing number of robo-traffic jams is going to unify both sides of the war on cars in one of the weirdest political coalitions 🙃
Waymo privatized another public street:

Chanel approaching 4th, San Francisco

Possibly queued for a Billie Eilish show at Chase Center ~half mile away.

The light rail train on 4th seen passing in front of this roboherd has more passenger capacity than all of them combined.

But then again, why is NVIDIA attempting to explain to people how *not* like Enron they are? Is there something going on that might be, if I was misinformed, something I'd say "man that sure looks like Enron"? Why is everybody talking about Enron so much? Why so SERIOUS?

I think this NVIDIA Enron thing might have slightly jokerfied me. I occasionally laugh and mutter "we are NOTHING like ENRON." It's so funny. Like NVIDIA genuinely does not seem to be like Enron! Right? Why did you mention Enron? Why are you trying to "dodge the Enron allegations"?

This is heartbreakingly cruel and hypocritical. The same admin that has redefined refugee status to cover white South Africans is now going to drown thousands of refugees already approved for their status in red tape, potentially even seeking to strip some of their status and deport them.
Trump Admin planning a rule to re-decide whether *every* refugee who entered under Biden meets their criteria for a refugee. That’s 230,000 people! And no appeals!

Surprised Kevin Perjurer didn't include that indescribably awful Stan Lee facsimile in his roundup of zombie celebrities.

If you've never seen it... people are being charged to me this thing at cons.

Though I think there is a cultural answer, but it's broader. The story of the 2020s has been this mass turn towards speculation. From retail daytraders, to sports betting's ascension, to the return of trading card, to labubu blind boxes.

Following Matt Levine's column on prediction markets, and the conclusion is that they're not getting big because of techbro philosophy.

Prediction markets are big because they schmoozed into being unregulated sports gambling. Literally, bookmaking on sporting events. That's the money influx.

There's a lot to say about the Roblox CEO interview, and the right place to start is definitely his answers on children's safety, because that's kind of the fire that is hottest and closest.

However, I have to also say, the polymarket stuff is real 'summation of our neoliberal dumpster fire' shit.

I often think about why virtue signaling matters. And the best explanation may be what Vonnegut learned from Hamlet.
