like “old white racist, once credited and acclaimed for a woman’s work, has died at 97” isn’t as compelling of a headline but it is more accurate

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera
In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.
As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

Hearing "There are many who thought this day would never come" and "hope is alive" from Mamdani reminds me of the very best of "they said this day would never come" and the peak of the optimism of the hope era of Obama's entry to the national stage. But now, informed by all we've lost and learned.

watching this shit on Newgrounds was genuinely the coolest thing on the entire internet when it came out
a bunch of us in high school crowded around the same computer and flipping out about what we just saw
stick figures as art, man, just incredible work

It wasn't deep. It didn't have much to say. But Xiao Xiao inspired millions to try Flash animation for themselves.
A Beijing artist made this series -- and turned stick fights into a phenomenon. We're exploring why and how he did it:

"Torment Nexus" comes from this tweet and is often used now to describe the kind of negative experiences you can have with social networks, like getting dogpiled or harassed or being pushed into conflict

Democrats r so out of touch they think digging up evidence Mamdani is secretly more progressive is somehow a gotcha
At this point I expect them to dig up tumblr posts from 2010 where he memes about eating the rich only 4 his support 2 grow
A lot of Americans want progressive politics cry about it

i am very exhausted by disinformation about the cost of transition healthcare. it costs less than $100 for 1-2 years of hormones, depending on your exact sourcing. presenting HRT as impossibly expensive and inaccessible to people who need HRT but don't know how is equivalent to medical gatekeeping.

Guys like Sam figured out how 2 manipulate guys that think they r 2 smart 4 grifts. The tech guy playbook is decades old at this point
You regurgitate scifi books and some philosophy with all the nuance of a LessWrong blog post and voila nerds constantly fight (give attention) to whatever u r doing

I wish more would understand that tech billionaires don't actually have a comprehensive moral philosophy or world view or goals. The stuff they say is just grifting for "smart people"
They really just want money and to win the game of capitalism

The tradeoffs devs make anymore no longer make sense and create self-imposed fatigue. Stop making your dev life harder. Use plaintrext pipelines, use big files, write shell scripts, use a big dedicated server instead of serverless etc
It will all scale way farther than you think it will

so many of the techniques we use for software dev are based in outdated intuitions of performance. we split up everything and throw everything into docker etc but none of it is necessary
we do even it with things like blogs, notes etc. I have giant 11 million words org-mode files they work fine

I keep seeing people literally dying from not being able 2 cope with being online but feeling forced 2 be online for their career.
That is a fucking hellscape. It is not good it is bad
You cant really fix it because it is a fundamental aspect of scale. Views 2 career is a bad system 4 every field

The rise of influencing and streaming is a net negative 4 society. Only entertainers should have their value and worth linked to pleasing and interacting with society at large
The fact we are subjecting everyone in every field to organized abused and harassment just 4 survival is fucking dystopian

John Oliver is what liberals imagine Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert to be — a genuine critic of America’s systemic failures who stands up for trans people and other marginalized groups, while actually offering real actions and hopeful solutions.

Hard to find a more obvious example of the journalism adage “If someone says it’s raining outside and someone else says it isn’t, your job is not to quote them both, your job is to go outside.”
A classic case of irresponsible both-sidesism from the NYT. The story is that Trump and MAGA propagandists are lying about Portland to incite a conflict, not that there are different views of the matter.
