Looks like ICE is now cracking down on … Native Americans.

This letter was just posted by the chairman of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in North/South Dakota:

“Our Nation is a sovereign government and our members are not immigrants. We are not subject to immigration enforcement on our own lands.”

Trump is trying to force US oil companies to rebuild Venezuelan oil fields that are too expensive to invest in at current crude prices while a full blown energy revolution is happening with cheap solar and electrification growing exponentially.

This is a dying empire shit.

Measles may have been spread at a Noah’s Ark-themed creationist museum in Kentucky earlier this week, the state’s health authority said.

NCAR is quite literally our global mothership.

Everyone who works in climate and weather has passed through its doors and benefited from its incredible resources.

Dismantling NCAR is like taking a sledgehammer to the keystone holding up our scientific understanding of the planet.

Unbelievable.

Unbelievable. This would be a terrible blow to American science, writ large. It would decimate not only climate research, but also the kind of weather, wildfire, and disaster research that has underpinned half a century of progress in prediction, early warning, and increased resilience.
Exclusive: The Trump administration is moving to dismantle the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Colorado, according to a senior White House official, taking aim at one of the world's leading climate research labs.

The negative impacts of fossil fuels far outweigh any societal benefits, particularly when compared with renewable alternatives for power generation. There is lots of detailed information in these threads. H/T to @pv-physicist.bsky.social 🧪🔌💡☀️💨💧🔋
I have written long threads about two coal power plants in Germany. Jänschwalde (in the East) and Neurath (in the West). Why did I do that? To highlight the impacts fossil fuel power plants have.

Let's talk about fossile fuel power plants for a moment. Shall we?
I'll start with one I was recently close to: Jänschwalde coal fired plant in Germany. It burns lignite coal from a close by open pit coal mine. This is the lowest grade of coal also called brown coal.
