A liberal in illiberal times. Fervent supporter of reform to Congress, the courts, and the imperial presidency to save our democracy.

Who’s next?

One demotion cannot detract from accountability.

Greg Bovino and Trump’s agents must still be held responsible for the killings and the damage they’ve done to America.
Greg Bovino Loses His Job
The Border Patrol chief has been ousted from his role as “commander at large,” and will return to El Centro.

The only way DHS stops being a total menace is if Miller & Noem get the boot in favor of someone who will submit to Congressional oversight. The only way DHS stops being an un-American travesty is if it is dismantled altogether.

People at taken to Whipple are released into the cold in whatever they were wearing without their phones and IDs. Volunteers meet them at release (or find them left in parks and the woods) get them a burner, warm clothes, food, a ride home, etc

Saying there must be trials isn't just an emotive aspiration.

Congress can:
- Create a new court (complying w/ 6A jury vicinage)
- Give it jurisdiction over defined category of crimes
- Also create dedicated prosecutors for the same
- Strip SCOTUS of appellate jurisdiction

It can be done.

Minneapolis police chief Brian O'Hara says that the victim was a 37-year-old white man and US citizen with no criminal record and that he was a legally permitted gun owner.

Reminder: All it would take to end the murder of American citizens by an untrained government goon squad is 16 Republicans in Congress voting with Dems to defund ICE (or 23 to impeach and remove Trump — 3 in House & 20 in Senate). That’s it. 23 Americans can vote for the public and end all of this.

Even in DC speak I’d take: “This agency is hopelessly politicized and has a broken culture of violence and unquestioning loyalty to Trump. Its duties will be reorganized and reassigned to other law enforcement agencies. ICE was an experiment started in 2003 and it has failed.”

The role of cars in our society results in a uniquely American way that state violence is enacted and justified. Renee Good is just the most recent.

If you work in any area of engineering, planning, or public admin, what we do is relevant to our current historical moment, whether we like it or not.
FYI: Judge Ellis (Chicago ICE case) noted in November that video evidence shows ICE "brake-checked other motorists in an attempt to force accidents that agents could then use as justifications for deploying force."

I didn’t even think of this but what Minneapolis is doing right now is literally modern minute men. And it’s true to the name: if anything happens, responders are on their way in well under a minute.
Boston was occupied by British troops in the summer of 1774. by September the inhabitants of Massachusetts had a system that could mobilize several thousand men in under 24 hours. by spring of 1775 that number was over ten thousand. this was with no comms except verbal and hand-delivered written

And at some point, people will decide that if the law doesn't protect us - or the mothers among us - it doesn't protect ICE agents either and the things people throw at them will stop being insults and snowballs.

And then we will be in a much darker place, as a country.

The federal government claimed that the states have no jurisdiction to prosecute murders committed by its agents is the kind of thing the Founders would probably have done a whole entire revolution over
This is bullshit. They absolutely have jurisdiction.
