We’re not failing to eliminate homelessness because it’s too expensive, because it’s actually cheaper to house people than let them continue unhoused
“In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back into a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.”

In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Why? The country applies the "Housing First" concept agains homelessness.

The Trump administration arrested and detained two gospel singer brothers from Guatemala who have lived in Memphis for 10 and 20 years. The administration lied and claimed one had an extensive criminal record. Neither does. One has now been deported.

The President of the United States just called for Democratic members of Congress to be executed. "HANG THEM", he posted.

When conservatives are in charge, how do you build support for limiting cars, expanding transit, and encouraging walking and biking?

The French Riviera offers lessons.

Politically conservative Côte d’Azur cities like Cannes and Nice have embraced pedestrianization, car bans and bike lanes. That’s a departure from global norms.

In the American context any candidate for a federal office—and especially any incumbent—almost by definition is more dedicated to electoral victory and has access to more and better information about the electoral landscape than you, a civilian social media addict

THANK YOU. The knock on politicians (which has a lot of truth to it!) is that all they care about is winning power.
The premise “people who have dedicated their entire lives to electoral politics are simply not trying to win” is widely and frequently assumed on this website, and at the very least I think you’d need to develop some theory explaining why that is a reasonable assumption
this is the post that drove me insane and has me considering tossing myself out the nearest window

Just gonna show this chart to everyone that complains about Joe Biden not dropping out soon enough or whatever.

America is a country full of obnoxious dipshits that have very strong opinions about things they know absolutely nothing about.
The 2024 Data Don't Lie:

The only issue voters can clearly associate with the modern D Party is support for gay rights.

That's it.

Voters are 50/50 on which party is on SS and Medicare.

Yes, really.

That's why we need to leave pound them on the economy and critical programs like Medicaid.

Misinformation *is* central to democratic problems today, but the solution is *not* to correct such epistemic failures directly. Instead, we must address them at their roots, in social identity.

Or so I argue in a new post for @apaphilosophy.bsky.social.

It was settled law, so didn’t need protection as we used to have a SCOTUS and Executive Branch who followed the law. Which is why HRC warned about SCOTUS during her run, and why Trump’s Justices perjured themselves in their nom hearings & overturned it, thus ending any modicum of law & order.

The TL;DR of all this variation is this: non-tradeable goods, which are part of households' *fixed cost* budget (i.e. the expense is more-or-less essential and unavoidable) have become tremendously more expensive over time. That's especially true of major cities where people move for jobs!

Economists have a categorization that resolves most of the arguments: tradeable vs. non-tradeable goods. The difference explains why two things can be true:

1. Real incomes increased
2. Economic anxiety also increased
