Dogs. Baseball. Wine. Coffee. Beer. Cats. In that order.
Holy cow, this is a fantastic idea!
Honestly boycotting the World Cup would be the most effective and probably the least disruptive of all of the options available to Europe. I’m not sure how you can send teams and fans to contribute to a spectacle designed entirely to celebrate a guy trying to invade your territory.

Remember Doug McConnell from Mac and Mutley when I was a kid. Bay Area lost a great one this week.
Doug McConnell, longtime host of ‘Bay Area Backroads,’ dies at 80
Over decades on local and public television, McConnell guided viewers through Northern California’s landscapes and communities.

Dear humans,
It seems like your life is hard sometimes. While we dogs do our best to help, I know sometimes it’s not enough. Don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need support.
Even if it’s just a table to rest your head when it gets too heavy.

Found the coolest website that takes random found cassette tapes people submit and digitizes them. I’m listening to an NYC hip hop station from 1994: intertapes.net

This is a fantastic thread. MTV was the center of my universe as a teenager. Shout out to Night Tracks on TBS in the late 80's, too. Ran from 9pm-3am west coast time and was the main reason we stayed up way too late in the dorms every weekend.
MTV is officially ending all of its music channels.

In honor of that, what's your favorite music video?

Does anyone else bristle at this framing? WSJ says blue books are “torturing” students with hand cramps, and “nobody likes them.”

Listen, students have been outsourcing everything to AI and cheating their way through college. Blue books should be celebrated as a return to authentic human learning.
They Were Every Student’s Worst Nightmare. Now Blue Books Are Back.
Cheating with ChatGPT has become a huge problem for colleges. The solution is painfully old-school.

Happy Winter! 10:03am ET today marked the Winter Solstice, the day of the year when the Earth's northern hemisphere is tilted furthest away from the Sun – making today the shortest of the year for those of us north of the equator.
Will wintry temperatures be in your area? 😬

We don't deserve Rick Steves!
It’s the “season of love and giving”…but this year, doesn’t it seem more like a “season of fear and taking”? Like many of you, I’ve been saddened by the human impact of draconian government budget cuts and how angry many housed Americans are at unhoused Americans.

Amen!

Saw Ferris Bueller's Day Off as a high school senior in a packed theater on opening weekend. Vividly remember the audience reaction when the Ferrari blasted through the glass and landed in the backyard. Total pandemonium.
Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.
It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.
