"The maximum time a prisoner can spend on remand is 182 days (six months). Yet Muraisi and Ahmed were arrested in November 2024, and are not due to be tried until June at the earliest, which means they will be remanded for 20 months."

Shameful.

On Tuesday, Trump threatened a NATO ally - the UK took no action.

Today, the UK supported Trump's military operation in the North Atlantic.

When will this govt stop appeasing Trump and stand up for the rule of law?

Can't help think about this having just skimmed the government's new road safety strategy
In 2014 I met Australian traffic researcher Ian Johnston at a conference in Edmonton. I think often about something he said, and this week shared his words with a colleague: "If your plan is not for zero deaths, then your plan is for some deaths to happen"

This quite clearly should be headline news. Hunger strikers are nearing death and both the media and the government are largely ignoring them.

Mark Rutte, Secretary General of NATO, warned yesterday that Europe faces war with Russia.

Yesterday, wind produced 60% of British electricity.

Every unit of clean domestic energy we produce makes us more secure.

That’s why our enemies fund anti-renewables propaganda.

When are we going to have a special on:
• The rise of the far-right
• The state of the NHS
• The severe lack of trans+ healthcare
• The constantly hiking rent
• The 1% who own half this country's wealth
• Stagnant wages for the working class
• The state of council homes
• The housing crisis

In case it wasn't already obvious why Farage and his party are spreading misinformation about the climate crisis and trying to blame the most vulnerable for the problems caused by inequality - they've just received a record donation from a jet fuel multimillionaire!

Very happy to pay her £4,000 to take it off her hands if it’s such a concern.
Huge respect to the papers for finding both an 88 year old worried about the tax bill on her 6 bedroom Kensington house and a 20 year old fretting about only being able to save £12k a year tax free.
Top work all around. These are not easy case studies to find.

So UK Labour decided to copy the horrendous immigration policy used by Denmark's Social Democrats, on the very day those Social Democrats were routed in elections and lost the mayoral position in Copenhagen. Copying fascism doesn't make you popular with antifascists.

You cannot ban people from working and take away their assets and their mobility and then argue it’s their fault if they cost the government money.

- safe routes
- legal work
- help people rebuild their lives

Our communities and our economy will be richer as a result.
I haven't got much to add to the general horror at Labour's migration plans, but the bizarre focus on ebikes as assets seems to serve - intentionally perhaps - to increase the stigmatisation of ebike riders (read: delivery drivers) still further and undermine migrants' everyday mobilities.

The clever thing about going for stuff like the cycle for work scheme is it’s really noticeable, affects people with lots of media access and platforms, annoys green groups, and raises almost no revenue at the same time. Real win/win/win there.
