I would love it Norway joined the boycott. Portugal also.

All the European countries that recognize Palestine as a state should boycott Eurovision.
Dear BBC, the objection to Israel is not its "war in Gaza". It's its *war crimes* against the Palestinian people, in Gaza (and let's not forget the illegal occupations).
Tell it how it is.

Ireland among countries boycotting Eurovision after Israel allowed to compete
There had been calls for Israel's exclusion over the war in Gaza, as well as unfair voting accusations.

Once a symbol of unity and hope across Europe, the Eurovision Song Contest has been turned into a pink-washing front for war criminals in Israel.

After today's decision, there must be a global boycott of Eurovision.

It's great that red squirrels are managing to breed in the Highlands, but we have to stop treating road kill as if it wasn't a crime.

Parents need to grow up and let go (long before university, I mean). This is deeply unhealthy.
Just write letters once a fortnight. It works well in my experience.
People are very hard on young people on here, lack of critical thinking, lack of responsibility etc, and then you see something like this and it all makes a different kind of sense.

All for "AI slop"?

Inside the power-hungry data centres taking over Britain
Our thirst for AI is fuelling a new construction wave: of giant data centres. But can our electricity and water systems cope — and what will the neighbours say?

Not the Brexit deal.
Brexit.
A prejudiced moronathon that will continue to damage our country until we’re brave/sane enough to admit it, demand accountability from those who insisted upon it and then, finally, start to fix it.
The tide is turning. Even the Telegraph is now admitting the damage the Brexit deal has done to the economy.

Why do the newspapers put out misleading stuff about finance, that perpetuates ignorance?
Everyone is free to save as much as they like however they like. If you don't want to buy investments don't.
But there is a tax allowance if you want to buy stocks & shares.
And also for a savings account.
This is why it is good that financial literacy is going to be taught in schools. On average, if you are 20, you should save in an index fund and not worry about it for decades, and he should know this!
Josh Hall, 20, is 'worried' about how the cash ISA allowance cut announced in Wednesday’s Budget will affect his long-term savings plans

Dr Rowan Williams argues that empathy can mask the strangeness of another’s experience, but a robust account of human rights needs to cultivate the capacity to imagine alien perspectives.

Can we hang on to empathic understanding without sentimentality?

UK budget freeze on income tax thresholds

Over the next 5 yrs, 780,000 more people, the poorest, will pay income tax for the first time.

Someone earning £50,000 will pay £9,512 in tax, an increase of £1,247 because thresholds are frozen.

Can't grow economy by hitting low/middle income earners.
The government’s budget is simply managing decline
The budget does little to improve living standards or facilitate sustained economic growth

In early Christian times the state was not Christian, so it did unchristian things like leaving widows and orphans without support and persecuting religious minorities. Christians had to step in and do the Christian thing, sharing their provisions with those less fortunate than themselves.

Currently the cost is added to the public debt, but they pretend it isn't by calling it loans and loading the repayment of it onto individuals. In effect they add a huge tax (+ the interest) to the graduates. They don't declare it as public debt but it is. We need to tax the leeches not workers.
November 27, 2025 at 8:12 AM
If you really wanted to get this country back on its feet again you would delete all student loans and call them grants (as they should have been) so as to free the young earners of that millstone of stupid debt that should never have been hung round them.
Private debt is a drain on the economy.
