I feel like 10% of my posts are just reposting Sarah Taber. (Probably should be more.) Anyway, this whole 🧵.
Meanwhile, in Iran.

One of the biggest reasons for the uprising in Iran right now, as far as I can tell: water.

Only ~8% of the nation's water goes to people for drinking, bathing, etc. And even that's getting cut off.
Vetted figures from reliable sources have it as 2,000, and I suspect it's probably twice that. I can't imagine that it is anywhere near 20K. Whatever it is, though, the regime has pressed the accelerator where the only off ramp is "winning" or its own total destruction. apnews.com/live/iran-pr...

Ghana has repealed LI 2462, a law that allowed mining in forest reserves, including globally important biodiversity areas.

Passed by Parliament in December, the move is a major win for forest protection — though experts warn deeper forestry reforms are still needed.
Ghana repeals legislation that opened forest reserves to mining
After facing sustained pushback from environmental groups, Ghana revoked a 2022 law that had empowered the president to allow mining in the country’s forest reserves. In December, the Minister for…

This thread.
Starting tomorrow, the Trump administration is set to send notices to 1,000 student loan borrowers (first round) noticing them of an intent to garnish their wages for student loan debt.

This is cruel and unnecessary.

If you receive a notice, send it to us and we'll try to help.

As stated, some caveats in this story, but overall welcome news.
Caveats apply, as this data is only through November, but so far, this year, 92% of the new power plants built in the U.S. have been solar/batteries/wind.

92%! In the year Trump tried to destroy clean energy!

More in this week's chart for @canarymedia.com:

Chart: Clean energy remains dominant in the US — despite Trump
Trump spent much of 2025 boosting fossil fuels and blocking renewables, but 92% of new power additions through November were solar, wind, or batteries.

Like many in our city, the Blade has struggled in Helene's ongoing aftermath. We're a local journalism co-op of working class trans people. It has not been an easy year.

Amid exhaustion, illness, poverty and trauma we've still done important work. Please help us keep doing it.
