UMC Pastor, wife to my BFF (and favorite UMC Pastor), mother to 3 awesome kids. Lover of good stories, strong coffee, hot tea, dad jokes, and bears (the animal, not the sports team). Giver of mom hugs.
Professional Christian here 👋 - not only do I *worry* - I feel the need to explain “once your candle is lit, hold it upright, and let neighbor with the unlit candle light theirs off yours or else you will drip wax on your hands and maybe your neighbor…”

And yes, I get burned at least once anyway.😂
I am not religious please do not @ me but I have gone to candlelight service on Christmas Eve a handful of times because it’s just kind of nice!

However I spend the entire time eyeballing my candle and how soon the wax is gonna start really dripping on me. Do real Christians not worry?

My quote of the day

Compassion is sometimes the fatal capacity for feeling what it is like to live inside somebody else's skin. It is the knowledge that there can never really be any peace and joy for me until there is peace and joy finally for you too.

"Go to an old cemetery. See all the baby graves from before the 1950s & 60s? After that, hardly any. That's when people started vaccinating their children. If you're unsure what to do to protect your kids, the answer is literally written in stone." — Michael Okuda

Hire religion reporters, interview scholars of American Christianity, interview former members of these churches I am begging you.
It's making me a little crazy that the media has just discovered that at the core of #ChristianNationalism there's a bunch of people who believe women should not have the right to vote.

Don’t get tired of trying to do right.

Darkness can never extinguish light. It’s always the other way around.

Beloved… please do not drive yourself crazy trying to win arguments in these comments with people who are determined to misunderstand you.

We are going to have to learn to love around people.

Composure, Saints! This is a vital witness to our faith in Christ in any era of chaos.

Upon waking, let us meet with Jesus and trade our fear & anger for his courage & compassion.

Rely on God.
Read Scripture.
Be brave.
Pray valiantly.
Act like grownups.
Help the hurting.
Love defiantly.

Don’t know that I have enough Weird Christian former bird app followers to ask this, BUT:

I’m looking to read more liturgy in 2025 (b/c I want to write more and better).

I’ve got the BCP (obvi) and Common Prayer.

Anyone have any favorites to recommend?

It’s no coincidence that Jesus’s primary metaphors for ministry were not soldiers, hunters, or builders,

But shepherds, farmers, and fisherman.

The humility. The unpredictability. The chaos. The waiting. None of it means we failed.

This is just what faithfulness looks like.
