A reminder to the news media: “conflicting accounts” is what you say BEFORE the incontrovertible video evidence appears. After that, your job is to ask why one side is lying, not to repeat the lie and pretend no one knows the truth.

The doddering old fool is just threatening us with a good time.

A 100% tariff on our oil, potash and so many other goods and commodities tanks the American economy pretty well overnight.
Trump: “If Governor Carney thinks he is going to make Canada a ‘Drop Off Port’ for China to send goods and products into the United States, he is sorely mistaken … If Canada makes a deal with China, it will immediately be hit with a 100% Tariff against all Canadian goods and products”

All these things are true:

Electric vehicles ARE better than ICE vehicles, despite their issues.

When vehicles get “better,” too often people buy BIGGER vehicles & drive even more.

EV’s still pollute, take too much space, lead to too many deaths etc

Fewer cars, less driving is the REAL solution.

To be fair, yes, Carney is gutting a bit of the Canadian government at exactly the wrong time. Yes, we have to spend more on defence, but cutting capacity in the rest of govt in the hopes AI produces savings is just not that smart.
The irony of everyone fawning over how Mark Carney is 'standing up' for Canada is that he is simultaneously eroding the few institutions that actually distinguish the Canadian state from the US, and those which theoretically could be used to shield Canadians from the disaster area to the south.

Precisely this point. Here, Carney sounds *exactly* like Candidate Carney from the election campaign.
Carney's actions in power simply haven't matched his words, here or on the campaign trail. They've actually come close to being their exact opposite.

Carney has spent the past year subtweeting Trump.

At a certain point, these words mean nothing if he won't actually come out and say what he's criticizing.
"If great powers abandon even the pretense of rules & values for the unhindered pursuit of their power & interest, the gains from transactionalism will become harder to replicate" -- Carney's speech at Davos is an extended criticism of the damage Trump is doing (though he's not mentioning his name)
