One of the hardest periods in history to teach properly is WWII, because - for one strange but significant moment - the Anglo-American powers turned against fascism. The war subsequently became a pillar of the self-image of those powers despite it being a complete anomaly that they opposed fascism.

The NDP just propped up the most right-wing budget Canada has seen in, arguably, decades. Ask yourself why the NDP exists at all if it's going to do that. Just join the Liberal Party and stop wasting the energy of activists who want desperately to believe it is something better.
“But, at the same time, Canada [is] facing instability and overlapping crises ... in these challenging times, now's [not] the right time for an election.” (2/2)

Canada actively supported the British war against the people of Kenya, supplying F-48 Sabre fighter jets and a host of military and police supports. A Winnipeg cop named John Timmerman tortured Kenyan prisoners in Nairobi earning the nickname "the Himmler of Kenya."
#OtD 18 Nov 1953 the British Royal Air Force began aerial bombing of Kenya in an effort to crush the "Mau Mau" anti-colonial insurgency. Over the next year and a half they dropped nearly 6 million bombs on the country stories.workingclasshistory.com/article/9039...

Stumbled upon this very fair and kind review of Canada in the World today. I don't know the reviewer or the publication but I'm glad people are still finding the book and getting something from it. www.itsallgeekto.me/2025/09/revi...

Love to see this!
One of my favourite books I’ve read this year and already has an impact on my politics.
“Not only does Canada have a colonial history, it has a colonial present. Perhaps there is still time to prevent Canada from having a colonial future.”- @shipster.bsky.social.
#NowReading: By @shipster.bsky.social. Admittedly I’ve been meaning to read this for a while but have been intimidated by the possibility of me being not smart enough.

Carney & Canada's statements on Gaza are completely vacuous & shameless

Gaza doesnt need Canada's pity. Canada is still arming Israel. Canada must implement full and immediate arms embargo. And sanction Israel. And suspend all military and trade agreements.

Liberal PM Pierre Trudeau put the head of CUPW in jail for defying his strikebreaking legislation. But the postal workers arguably won that strike by holding the line. Carney may do the same, and I hope for all our sakes that these workers stand their ground. We owe them our support and our thanks.
Air Canada strike:

“We’re going to stay committed to making sure that those workers can do the job that they love doing and actually be able to afford a roof over their heads, to afford caring for their families,” CUPE president just said.

“If it means folks like me going to jail, then so be it.”

After months of juiced-up Canadian nationalism, it's worth reflecting on what people think it is that makes Canada 'better.' Cdn liberals emphasize things like a free and independent media, and yet, here is the Canadian media repeating an absurd lie that runs cover for a state committing genocide.
Canadian media is disgusting.

Recent announcements by France, EU, Arab League, Canada is not them 'changing' - it is another two-state attempt at Oslo pacification and normalization.

There can be NO "solution" that demands disarmament of the resistance, maintains apartheid & occupation, denies the right of return for refugees.

Nationalism is a fraud ideology. It sells out the working classes on behalf of the rich and powerful in the name of 'the nation' and empowers those who most embody 'the nation.' Every rube who fell for "elbows up" is being punished by their champion, and helped fertilize its growing racist reaction.

Canada has only ever had one principle: what is best for canadian profits. To that end it has partnered with some of the most horrific govts in the world, from the British and French Empires to Pinochet, from Apartheid South Africa to Saudi Arabia to Israel to the United States. Nothing has changed.
Lloyd Axworthy accuses Mark Carney of “bending the knee to US President Donald Trump at the expense of Canadian values”.

I completely agree with the former Foreign Affairs Minister. Canada used to take principled positions. Canada used to stand up to bullies.

We all watched Israel launch an unprovoked assault, it is already on Wikipedia, which prompted Iran to fire missiles in retaliation. There is no ambiguity about who shot first, it was Israel. Canadian PM issues a statement about Israel's right to defend itself.

When your province is currently on fire due to climate change and thousands of Indigenous people are displaced because of it, it only makes sense to propose building an oil pipeline through the very same land, a pipeline even the oil industry doesn't want 🙃

Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew says oil could be among the commodities shipped through Hudson Bay if Canada proceeds with a new or expanded port along the province's coastline.
