Pretty convincing evidence here that the Trump administration was planning to jailbreak and provide asylum for Bolsonaro -- and that Trump inadvertently revealed the plan.

And this, as the now-cliche goes, would have been a paralyzing scandal for any other administration.

China: What if we funded installing as much renewable infrastructure as we could all over the world for reasons?

America: What if we invaded as many nations with giant oil reserves as we could all over the world for reasons?
I'm sorry. I shouldn't. But it's too rich to pass up.

The centrist faction's biggest fossil-fuel promoter "genuinely" does "not understand" why Trump is gearing up to invade the sovereign nation that has the biggest oil reserves on the planet.

I just don't think there was anything in our evolutionary past to have influenced the development of an evolutionary response to it that simulated consciousness but was not conscious. There are no brain resources to have adapted to such a concept. Even the uncanny valley response is to corpses.
Ok I read the article so you don’t have to and honestly it isn’t as obnoxious as the headline but it’s not leaning into the most interesting part of the question, which is “why do we still know so little about human consciousness that we can’t easily explain why a talking machine isn’t conscious”

This Administration’s policies will spur millions of new infections and deaths from AIDS. Today’s announcement is simply to rub all of our noses in this. It is to say: we know what we’re doing; we don’t care. It is pure sadism. It’s a descent into barbarism once again.
1/ ⚠️ Breaking: At CDC, we've been told the US Government will not officially commemorate World AIDS Day this year. No explanation given.

Cannot overstate how, from my perch as a national-security reporter, this would have been an earth-shattering scandal in a prior era.
Billionaire Binance founder Changpeng Zhao, pardoned by Donald Trump, has been accused of facilitating millions of dollars’ worth of payments to Hamas in the wake of its attack on Israel on October 7 2023. Zhao also financed the Trump family's entrance into the cryptocurrency market.

In the end, when I walked from my X account, the waves of racists and bots that were always invoking the same phrases and talking points made it clear that the thing was just a hall of mirrors, that it had been crudely rigged for political fraud. Never thought Musk would admit it all in a self-own.

Is it a Russian plan? As a translator I find it very convincing that "Luke Harding of The Guardian noted that the plan appears to have been translated from Russian, as many of the phrases in the text read naturally in that language but are awkward and clunky in English." - Heather Cox Richardson
