A photojournalist was arrested by ICE at gunpoint — and his DACA status revoked.

“Ya’akub isn’t being accused of breaking immigration law — his DACA protection doesn’t expire until May 2026. In fact Ya’akub’s lawyers say he hasn’t been accused of any crime.”

IT'S ALIVE 💀🦎🦌🧠

It was a pleasure and a privilege to edit this book with
@klschroeder.bsky.social, one that I fell in love with straight from the submissions pile. A quiet, aching story that radiates a love of all life while looking death, personal and species-wide, right in the eyes.

Total agreement
No other word has done more damage to the craft of writing in recent years than “content”. Even if you’re using the word “content” ironically, or as a cute little joke, don’t. When someone calls writing “content” they’re pissing on someone’s hard work & passion. “Content” is Technosatan’s henchword.

Really enjoyed Predator: Badlands. Never thought there'd be a fun "found family" story in the Alien/Predator universe, but here it is.

Also, the trailer for the new Avatar movie is the longest, most boring preview of the year. All it screams is "LOOK! WE HAVE CGI!"

As someone who has previously been a starving writer treated like a disposable tool, this is both hilarious and hitting very close to home.

I'm already seeing people saying that if OpenAI goes down it'll be the fault of authors and publishers, as opposed to actually blaming Sam Altman and OpenAI for BREAKING THE DANG LAW!
“authors & publishers who filed a lawsuit against the Sam Altman-led firm have secured access to internal Slack messages… discussing the mass deletion of a pirated books dataset… A NY district court ordered OpenAI to hand over the communications regarding data deletion”

OpenAI pirated large numbers of books and used them to train models.

OpenAI then deleted the dataset with the pirated books, and employees sent each other messages about doing so.

A lawsuit could now force the company to pay $150,000 per book, adding up to billions in damages.

so many terrible moments in the destruction of freedom of the press in America but this attempted erasure of a fellow Philly peeps & the important reportage of, yes, Teen Vogue marks a turning point imho 😔
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.
