Tucson residents fought back against Amazon’s secretive plans to build a data center in the desert — and won.

But now, in a blatant attempt to override the City Council and the will of the people, Amazon and the project’s developer is pushing ahead anyway.

Somewhere in a Roman brickyard, around 1800 years ago, a fresh tile was drying ahead of firing - until a dog trotted straight across it.
Centuries later, the tile has made it into a museum: not because of an emperor, but thanks to one dog who accidentally walked his way into history.🧵1/2

it's worse than that: the machines could crank out a larger volume of shittier cloth *and* didn't require a lot of training to operate

so instead of paying the same workers the same price for more cloth, they got a bunch of orphaned kids to work the machines
An easy way to explain luddites:

Textile manufacturers brought in machines that could do in an hour what would have taken 12 hours by hand.

And then, tried to keep paying the now 12x more productive workers the same wages as before.

That's it, that was the problem luddites had. Not complex.

nah, i'm pretty sure it's the killing people part that's the worst
The worst part about the boat strikes - regardless of who ordered what and besides the ultimate tragedy of lives lost - is they’re forever a stain on the professionalism and dignity of the United States military.

They’re an insult to every American who ever sacrificed to do the right thing.

I know Banana Fish wasn't the only series with an AI dub slapped onto it, but part of me wonders if the reason why they selected Banana Fish specifically as one of the test beds was because Banana Fish is early foundational gay media and thought it would have fewer viewers and no one would catch it.

After a "double-tap" strike was ordered to kill survivors of an initial attack on a so-called "drug boat," the White House has tried to gaslight the American people by fabricating their own reality. This spin is the latest in a pattern of denial and distortion at the highest levels of government.
Double-Tap Gate: A Case Study in Gaslighting
We’re all trapped in Trump’s fabricated world and need to pull ourselves up out of it.

Getting a massive nosebleed on a 15 1/2 hour flight and desperately trying to get what I can out of my clothes

Watched flow and cried

Spool is traveling as well as he can. I hate this long haul flight tho aaaa

the flight was delayed beyond capability to travel this morning due to weather... so we are flying out tomorrow and I'm spending one more day and night at my mom's house. Being able to repack bags in a less chaotic way is actually kinda nice and it means spool can adjust to the travel changes

There is a direct correlation between how fake your job is and how much value you see in AI
A study by Dayforce shows 87% of executives use AI for work, compared to 57% of managers and just 27% of employees.

I think this explains the massive disconnect we see in how CEOs talk about AI versus everyone else. It also raises the question of how useful it truly is for frontline work?
Execs are embracing AI more than their employees are, new research suggests
Research from HR software company Dayforce suggests that executives are leaning into AI far more than their employees.

I find it interesting that they are doing this to a show about a queer csa victim

It feels intentional since they can use the excuse of "well it's too taboo of content to get anyone to dub it normally."
Hey just so you know Amazon decided to give us an AI ENGLISH DUB of Banana Fish instead of actually hiring real voice actors
it is fucking hot garbage
