Quite a rough expressive drawing of chrysanthemums. A technique I have often used is to prime thick paper or card with gouache sometimes coloured and mixed with acrylic gesso. Then worked over it with oil pastels and then by rubbing more waterbased colour into this it can be persuaded to take ink drawing (with a dip pen) mostly using acrylic ink.

My assignment for Winona Nelson's SmArtschool class: Choose a favorite book and illustrate a cover for it.

I picked "The Song of Achilles" by Madeline Miller, and my goal was to capture a similar bittersweet tone as the novel has.
Achilles and Patroclos, standing next to each other in front of a raging fire. Achilles is outfitted for battle and looks wistfully into the distance, while Patroclos ties some laces of his armor, also looking sad. Behind them and above there's the mosaic of a warrior in his chariot.
