“Everyone has their reasons, that’s what’s so frightening. People can find a way to justify any action, no matter how evil…You can’t judge people by what they think or say, only by what they do.”

Here's a bitter pill to swallow:

Most police shootings of Black men are not some secret klan member cop murdering for fun.

They're a cop that is not intentionally racist, and a Black person that is not a violent criminal, having a cop + citizen interaction, in a system that is racist by design.

This shd have been done after Philando Castille, but better late than never.

Everybody in America walking around with a camera/recorder in their pocket is the most important development in police accountability since the invention of the probable cause standard.

I'm definitely not in Texas anymore.

I went to the store to prepare for the snow storm; the tortilla chip aisle was fully stocked and an employee felt the need to warn me that the can of hominy in my hand wasn't corn. "People usually think it's corn".

DHS spending bill passed 220-207

7 Democrats voted in favor:
Henry Cuellar
Don Davis
Laura Gilles
Marie Gluesenkamp Perez
Jared Golden
Vicente Gonzalez
Tom Suozzi

Massie voted No
Andy Harris didn't vote

Might not have passed if every Democrat voted No, but leadership wasn't whipping them to do so

Insisting that Gavin Newsom is our best option tells me you have no concept of coalition building.
The fact that Gavin Newsom is even talking to the likes of Shapiro is a sign that he’s a non-starter. I’ve never forgotten how Shapiro said that Trayvon Martin deserved to die. Not fucking ever.
Ben Shapiro: "Israel did not commit a genocide in Gaza"
Gavin Newsom: "I agree with you."

White folks. Watch this. Twice if you have to.

And don’t just listen to her. Understand what it is she is saying.

/8 A huge part of what makes it very hard to convict Jonathan Ross for murder was baked into America generations before Trump was President. That’s the primary factor that lets law enforcement kill with impunity, not Trump.

Dick Wolf has killed more black men than Leopold II.

The reason overreach is able to happen now is that, when it happened to minority groups that Dems were too cowardly to fight for, they joined with Rs to strip away rights and limit recourse (the Ann Richards/Bill Clinton model). Now, w/ those evil precedents set, chickens are coming home to roost.

A reminder that Austin Police under Art Acevedo murdered 20yo Byron Carter Jr. while he was an unarmed passenger. Same excuses as yesterday's ICE murder.

This isn't an ICE problem, it's a police problem and it won't go away until we recognize the profound racism at the heart of our legal system.

My extended family can fit in a small bathroom because of the holocaust.
The way that people talk about the Holocaust like it’s some kind of thought experiment and not a very real event that still traumatizes its survivors and descendants of its survivors to this day is…not something I can muster words for.

I’m starting to think Verhoeven was too subtle.
Chamberlain’s new smart lock will lock your door and shut your garage upon spotting a stranger
The smart lock will “recognize” you as you approach.

We need to treat cops the same way we treat ICE.
Specifically, US cops will shoot and kill ~80 people every 22 days, *for this entire year*.🤦🏿‍♂️

The victims will be disproportionately Black. They'll be pursued in a misguided "War on Drugs," even though white people do more drugs and are more likely to be found with contraband in their cars.

There's a building in my neighborhood that's clearly contributing to the rat problem and I think people tend to blame the tenants rather than the landlord who refuses to replace the broken trash cans or the city that inexplicably charges $65 to replace them.

This is a big part of how we code basic government amenities and services as some form of luxury concierge service. Not one person involved in this discussion would accept the level of shoddy service regularly provided to poor communities but they imagine it’s because the poor simply don’t care.

Since finding out that Steven Wright and Christopher Walken both have houses on Block Island, I’m obsessed with the idea of them doing a podcast. I don’t care what it’s about I just want to hear the most dramatic and least dramatic men talking about things.

There's no oscillation. A program designed to force a white supremacist society to include people who are being unnaturally restricted is not discriminatory, and is good.

White christian conservatives wouldn't be able to handle actual discrimination. They can't even handle equality. Weak.

My only question with this guy is does Jim Henson do the voice or did he just make the muppet?
I haven’t wanted to say it but YOLO.

Jesse Wells is not John Prine. He isn’t even close.

This is unforgivable but also remember that roughly 1,000 people a year die in US prisons. The problem is bigger than we realize.
That makes 32 reported deaths in ICE custody since Trump took power again.
Authorities have reported the death of a Nicaraguan immigrant in ICE custody in a hospital in Natchez, Mississippi, the seventh reported death of an immigrant in ICE custody this month.
