The billionaire conspiracy has definitely moved me more in favor of a wealth tax. I don't think it's good strictly on the econ merits, but I've come to see taking power from these people as its own social good and if a tax can do that maybe we should give it a try

I think a Billionaire Tax (annual tax on wealth>$1B) would be pretty popular but there are some implementation challenges

It's weird that people like this can straight up be late for a payment and it doesn't affect anything for them. If I'm a day late for something--has happened maybe twice in my life--I freak out bsky.app/profile/thet...
MORE: The local crew foreman on the NASHVILLE tunnel dig says Elon’s Boring Company has been wildly late on pay, and has been trying to hire his guys behind his back.

He also says despite what Steve Davis said about safety, the situation is dangerous.

Lately I've just been sewing all buttonholes by hand. In principle my machine can do them faster and better, but the variance is too high. When it screws up, which is often, I lose tons of time *and* the result looks awful. Doing it by hand gives me consistency and control

Thanksgiving costs climbed about 10% this year over last year, according to new research from @groundwork.bsky.social @tcfdotorg.bsky.social & @aft.org.

That’s an increase of more than 3X the overall inflation rate. Explore the research👇

I don't know how to write the tax but seems like "people who are actively decreasing density in UES" is also an optimal group to raise taxes on bsky.app/profile/samd...
The first upzoning Zohran should push for is the Upper East & Upper West Side, two of the wealthiest neighborhoods in the city with the least housing production.

things have gotten so bad on the UES that apartment buildings are being torn down and replaced by *smaller* buildings with fewer units

the other thing I would do with UK's "soda tax" is just repeal the "soda" part and tax added sugar in all products from any source. "added" and "sugar" will continue to be litigated but this completely eliminates the need to define "drink"

People think when a recipe says "transfer to a wire rack to cool" the purpose is to cause them to cool faster but what you're actually doing is slowing it down since air is a better insulator than your cold counter that will suck the heat right out

So headlines like this are why it's hard to do taxes efficiently. Everyone who wants an exemption will frame a broad-based tax as being an attack on them specifically, and the press will mostly go along with this bsky.app/profile/cine...

I think better than a sugar tax would be a regulation saying that restaurants must serve diet versions of any sugary beverage, and do so on the same terms as the sugar version (same price, same refills etc)
November 25, 2025 at 3:08 PM
sugar tax is meh as a policy idea but I feel very strongly that if a sugar tax exists it must include milk. It's extremely weird and bad that US schools ban coke but have chocolate milk with more grams of sugar than coke bsky.app/profile/mcbr...
