so I bought this "wool serge" fabric to see what it's like. I had read about it in the historical literature, but the descriptions were vague so I wanted to see in person. (it is black btw, AI-infected cameras screw up colors, it's just black)

There's no waste at Martinhof, fabric scraps from sewing end up as stuffing for pillows like this one, which is also made entirely from remnants of other sewing projects

like does he hear himself when he says things like this. You can get a TV today for $74, that option exists. By contrast some googling tells me a 21" TV in 1955 was $250. That's not adjusted for inflation. TVs have very massively deflated in price over time

so anyway the outrageous thing is that the administration is trying to create a professional vs grad school distinction that I would argue that the text of the statute--which treats them as equivalent things--does not allow

yes, it is one of the few degrees explicitly mentioned in the statute. Med school, law school, and clergy are the professions, basically it's a term for things that are technically grad schools but not usually called that

so the non-exhaustive list in the statute is really stupid, like chiropractor and theology are included, even as nursing is not. Also fwiw almost all references in the statute are "grad school or professional school" it's clearly an attempt to lump the two together rather than create special status

so I've been experimenting with a no-visible-stitches approach to a wingtip collar. I don't do fusibles so probably one or the other side of the collar should have some amount of pick stitching to hold the interfacing in place, but I've tried to keep it as invisible as possible

So there's an obsession in men's suits with not having any visible top stitching but interestingly this doesn't extend to men's shirts, where top stitching is practically universal for collars

so here's a clock that belonged to my great grandfather, probably bought by his father, that was in use for 70 or 80 years because the farm never had electricity. Some of you will fight me if I call it pretty but be honest that ornate gilt trim is trying a heck of a lot harder than your clock
