Technically passes the butter test but not really since it's spreadable butter and seemingly just for the rolls not for cooking

so I bought this "wool serge" fabric to see what it's like. I had read about it in the historical literature, but the descriptions were vague so I wanted to see in person. (it is black btw, AI-infected cameras screw up colors, it's just black)

There's no waste at Martinhof, fabric scraps from sewing end up as stuffing for pillows like this one, which is also made entirely from remnants of other sewing projects

$5k works out to $20 per lunch. I know he also has clothes in there, how many clothes is he buying on a daily basis. Anyway this is also informative because people absolutely did used to bring a basket or pale for lunch rather than buying
November 24, 2025 at 6:10 PM
He repeats this $15k commuting a couple times, can someone describe to me a scenario in which someone would spend $15k (or half that) on commuting
November 24, 2025 at 5:55 PM
like does he hear himself when he says things like this. You can get a TV today for $74, that option exists. By contrast some googling tells me a 21" TV in 1955 was $250. That's not adjusted for inflation. TVs have very massively deflated in price over time

also lol at the think tankers who were tasked with finding a way to make an actual policy out of Trump's ramblings about the checks, can only imagine this as being like the scene from Apollo 13 where they have to repair the rocket with just these parts

so anyway the outrageous thing is that the administration is trying to create a professional vs grad school distinction that I would argue that the text of the statute--which treats them as equivalent things--does not allow
November 24, 2025 at 12:40 PM
yes, it is one of the few degrees explicitly mentioned in the statute. Med school, law school, and clergy are the professions, basically it's a term for things that are technically grad schools but not usually called that
November 24, 2025 at 12:35 PM
so the non-exhaustive list in the statute is really stupid, like chiropractor and theology are included, even as nursing is not. Also fwiw almost all references in the statute are "grad school or professional school" it's clearly an attempt to lump the two together rather than create special status

we perfected abundant cheap, vibrant, color-safe pigments in every hue and then immediately stopped using colors

the most accursed thing crappy tuxedo rental places do is these extra stitches at the fold down. It's really gross don't do it
November 23, 2025 at 9:30 PM
so I've been experimenting with a no-visible-stitches approach to a wingtip collar. I don't do fusibles so probably one or the other side of the collar should have some amount of pick stitching to hold the interfacing in place, but I've tried to keep it as invisible as possible
November 23, 2025 at 9:22 PM
So there's an obsession in men's suits with not having any visible top stitching but interestingly this doesn't extend to men's shirts, where top stitching is practically universal for collars

I sometimes wonder if zoomers even know that little escapement in the back is what TikTok is named after
November 23, 2025 at 3:25 PM
so here's a clock that belonged to my great grandfather, probably bought by his father, that was in use for 70 or 80 years because the farm never had electricity. Some of you will fight me if I call it pretty but be honest that ornate gilt trim is trying a heck of a lot harder than your clock

hope to be rich enough to have an entire room for gay someday
November 23, 2025 at 1:34 PM
a parlor design that invites you (to make your point quickly because we only have three chairs)
November 23, 2025 at 1:25 PM
even the rich seem to have had a deficit of seating by modern standards
November 23, 2025 at 1:17 PM
I often see takes like this or that was the focal point in living rooms (parlors) before the TV. I think this drawing is actually a pretty good illustration, there really wasn't a single focal point before TV
November 23, 2025 at 12:59 PM
they didn't even knit the design into it, it's just badly stitched on. It looks like the seam where the Borg queen's head attaches to her body
November 23, 2025 at 9:40 AM
why does he have four shoulders
November 23, 2025 at 9:38 AM
I have no problem with a pink richly decorated sweater for men but separately I think this particular one looks like garbage? bsky.app/profile/theg...

So do a lot of dinner parties and I don't agree with this at all. If your guests are scarfing down an entire pound of just one dish, you did not put together a good menu
