Cold weather exists because the sun doesn't reach the poles, which is an eerie cosmic horror to think about. It's the cold of space getting in. Winter is outer space encroaching on your little body.

If you read a translated book, or poem, or anything, and the words move you or the prose excites you: remember the translator.
Because those words are theirs. The original text is the plan. It lays out the structure and the goal, but the translator makes the choices that get you there.

It is UNREASONABLE how good the food at Da Daico is, like it’s almost maddening to know that I can’t replicate it and you know what? I wouldn’t want to because his would still be better. Details in alt.

Last film (seen in a theater anyway) of 2025 did not disappoint: revenge, a kickin’ soundtrack, drama, awesome costumes, a little Knights Templar, and a satisfying conclusion

That being said, Sinners, Substance, and One Battle After Another also blew my socks off. Such a good dang year for films.

Still the probably the best film I saw all year (meaning it resonating with me most). Saw it four times in theaters and debating a subscription to Mubi so I can watch it whenever I want
Why on earth have I not heard about this film until now?! One of the most beautiful pieces of cinema I’ve ever seen, hands down. Japan is doing a limited run right now so if you haven’t seen it, go YESTERDAY

Finally saw all three hours of Kokuhō and like…yes, it was very prettily shot, but like, I’m not sure what the message was supposed to be? Main character made all kinds of hurtful choices and still got to be declared a living national treasure, and I dunno, my sense of justice didn’t like that.
