I suppose I should try making an intro post. I left Twitter back when it rebranded from a mere hellsite and fled to Mastodon. Mastodon is nice, but it’s quiet there and I miss the voices of the people I used to follow. Seems they’re gathering here! Hello! :waves awkwardly:

The book club scam has taken an exciting new leap forward. I got one today from a "curated literary platform and newsletter" that, unusually, offered a link to its website. I'm in edits, so obviously I took the opportunity to procrastinate. /1

The giant cave worm resides deep within the caves in the Strangehollow mountains. It is a vast creature, consuming any living thing in its path, its favourite being the deliciously crunchy cyclops or spitting garnagle. Pre order here: buff.ly/WMSJMQX

Word has spread on the long tailed tit grapevine that I run a very good bird café. This family group (likely brothers & sisters from a 2025 brood) came to dine. I’m passing on these 5 adorable tiny birbs (colloquial name: flying teaspoons) to you bc we all need a bit of joy rn🪶:

Been mostly off social media reading CALVIN AND HOBBES all day. I treated myself to the Complete set and dove in.

It’s as funny, gorgeous, and full of heart as it’s always been. You can’t adapt this. When something is perfect, anything less than what it is seems a waste. You can’t improve on it.

I can't find the thread anymore so I'll paraphrase but
People pushing AI in the arts dont understand that art is the process not the result
Writing is about the words and the meaning and how they slot together. Painting is about colour and texture and the physicality of the paintbrush on paper

this field biologist does a great job highlighting the insidiousness of AI editing

these one-click AI edit buttons are incredibly appealing to many photographers, amateurs and professionals alike, and are framed as innocuous

this is worth sharing and educating people about

My orange boy is perfect; he restores my soul
Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of blue, I fear no evil, for orange is with me
His hiss and his slorp, they comfort me
He prepares a hairball before me in the presence of guests
My cup runneth over. Please take your paw out of my cup

I'm creating a really fun user gallery for Trueref.io!

It'll have an appreciates system that's not tied to user accounts. And a front page art feature system, inspired by DeviantArt's old Daily Deviantations!

Other cool things too to try and help pump your socials & show off your art.
TrueRef: Real references for real artists
TrueRef is here to serve up monthly figure references for illustrators and photo editors—always free from retouching and never AI-generated.
