Stuff like this was an open secret (“secret”) in southern society (Mary Boykin Chestnut talks about it) but since the south was a shame rather than guilt society no one cared
The reason Preston Brooks beat Charles Sumner half to death while he was pinned in his desk was because Sumner gave a speech which criticized Brooks’s cousin Andrew Butler for his support of slavery and heavily (and correctly!) implied Butler was fucking his slaves

this is dumb hot take shit from me, and it’s worth me actually not being stupid about it: “the left” here, as defined by online hypeaddicts, is fucking worthless. but there’s a real movement left for regular progressives that i think is working, and useful.
the american left is a lost cause, left leaning dems are the path forward, and - note to every online leftist who sees this and gets mad online - they’re toothless

Someone could still file! There's over a month! I would argue people stanning for Platner and trying to ignore **his Nazi tattoo scandal** are actually making it less likely there could be another alternative. This is not about Collins or Mills! It's about Platner on his own merits.
There's other choices between the Nazi tattoo guy! We could just... choose someone else! Mills isn't my first choice, but there's things in the world worse than being 79, and being a Nazi is one of them!

The Dow is a price-weighted average of 30 stocks. It also is adjusted to account for stock splits over the years. The Dow is much higher than a simple average of those 30 stocks would be and it does not represent a dollar amount.

I am simply making the point Nazi tattoos are bad, disqualifying, and his explanations for this are implausible.

Here’s the thing I don’t think American leftists’ votes cost us the election, there just aren’t that many of them—I think the problem with them is that they have more conservative politics than regular libs and contribute to an overall project to paint the democrats as worse than republican
I think that we should unite behind a popular front to defeat fascism rather than treating a coalition as a hostage negotiation

(also the reality is that most swing voters are incoherent weirdos who are persuaded by random, often heterodox policies and vibes)

Again, I hope everyone likes Lost Decades, because the lesson Democrats have learned is to never try for full employment & ambitious policy in response to massive economic crises, bc you’ll get destroyed for single digit inflation you didn’t even cause & told you didn’t care about the working class
Again, I hope everyone likes Lost Decades. Because we are going to have a lot more of them in the next several decades, especially if we ever have a Democratic president again.
Again, along with the democracy concerns, I hope everyone loves Lost Decades, like we had under Obama. Because <every> Democrat, for the rest of our lives, is now going to learn the lesson that grinding 10-year long recessions are better than single-digit inflation that's a bit high for 1.5 years.

Biden was the most economically progressive president since LBJ at least, he pursued a full-employment economy at huge political risk, it worked spectacularly.

And what happened is that the entire progressive universe decided that he must not have done any of it, or else he would have been popular
Are the progressive economic policies in the room with us right now?
