NYT op-ed reminds billionaires to heed the French Revolution, mentions Network State cultists Peter Thiel and Balaji Srinivasan.

"It’s as if the sheer scale of this wealth, which beggars even the riches of the Gilded Age, has induced a kind of class sociopathy."

Oracle is cooked, I’ve seen enough and am calling it.

My prediction? Oracle along with the “neoclouds” will collapse, followed by OpenAI losing funding and collapsing, then it all comes down.
long-term leases for buildings housing a new and shifting technology which may or may not need football fields worth of space 20 years from now seems bad. Hiding $240B in long term leases like this until after earnings seems stupid.
Oracle’s $248 Billion Rent is Another AI ‘Bombshell’
Of all the eye-popping numbers that Oracle Corp. published last week on the costs of its artificial-intelligence data center buildout, the most striking didn’t appear until the day after its earnings ...

The Irish Nazi Party used to be run by a fella who lived with his mum in a cottage in Ringsend. In those days, no one said you lived in an "echo chamber" if you didn't go around to listen to him.
"Bluesky is an echo chamber."
"Bluesky doesn't have enough reach"
"Liberals must return to X to challenge the far right"

To those thinking Russia is winning in Ukraine:

Imagine if when we invaded Iraq, we were almost four years into it, only occupied 20 percent, and lost a million men.

Not a soul would call that “winning.”

In case you were wondering who is trying to capitalize politically off of atrocity.

I dunno what if space lasers from Mars are the only way to restart the world's idea machine? What if global spouse swapping is the only way to restart it? What if everyone learned Esperanto after all to restart it? What if we didn't have to live by paycheck chosing between food rent and healthcare?

America, you have spoken loud and clear: You do not like AI. But what if AI is the way to restart the world’s idea machine?
We’re running out of good ideas. AI might be how we find new ones.
What if the best use of AI is restarting the world’s idea machine?

Well, this is an utter disaster for science.

This gutting of peer review is very likely driven by Project 2025/OMB/Vought, very likely is about funding junk science, and very likely is coming for #NIH and biomedical research next.

It’s wild how you can easily tell which novel right wing crackpottery appeals to whom. Musk’s fans, for example, are men who feel superior because they’re too thick to realise they’re stupid. Terfism is the wingnuttery of folk who like to spend their weekends shouting at waitresses and shop staff.

You need to read this thread and you need to be calling every representative you have and threatening to literally never vote for them again and donate your time to getting them replaced if they do this.

If you don't, it's basically the end of the internet.
It’s very simple. Genuinely very simple. Until Section 230, it was the case that any website that allowed a user to publish any content of any kind could be sued if they said *anything* libelous or bad. That includes web hosts, blogging platforms, social media etc.
