Hello! It’s good to be here. 🖋️✨

I’m an Australian SFF writer. I’m currently editing a novel about necromancy and grief, while writing a novella about a robot at the end of the world.

I haven't had the space to write in the last few days, until tonight. I'm very tired. But amongst it all, some words have been written tonight. We also have a project name change - Project Bone to Project Rune. Better aligned as the world has evolved. #writingcommunity

Read the whole thread. "If your art didn’t matter, they wouldn’t be working so hard to steal it."
One tiny comfort I experience as a creator right now:

Some of the richest people on the planet have poured billions into a plagiarism machine because they are so utterly desperate to be us

But no machine learning program can give them our skills, our vision, or our heart

And they hate that

In the beginning, this novel was being pants with only two plot points in mind. But now I have reached a point where I have an idea of where I'm going and I've now created the goal posts to mark the beats. It's a fantasy murder mystery! How fun! #amwriting #writingcommunity

Wondering why you should write now with the world the way it is? Have you taken time recently to read a book? Was it a welcome relief? A moment of calm? Of normalcy? Sure it was. That's why you need to write, so your book can be that for someone else. And, of course, you do it for yourself too.

Today was the first day back to work for the year. It was hard. I was tired. I wanted to go to bed early. But I sat down to the laptop and got it done. Even hit word count, somehow. Time for sleep.

It might be helpful right now to remember that collective achievements for the common good are possible. We don’t know the names of everyone who contributed to this and some are probably lost to history. But all of their individual contributions mattered.

Yesterday I woke up feeling like hardly anyone’s reading my work and no one cares. Then I opened an email from someone telling me they loved one of my stories and how important they feel it is. All this to say, let people know when you like their art. Your words can find them when they most need it.

Imagine you were about to appear at a writers' festival to talk about your first book... then the whole thing fell apart.

I wanted to find debut authors who almost talked at Adelaide Writers' Week. These are 21 folks I've identified so far but *please* let me know who I've missed or mixed up.

I finished it. 5⭐️. No notes. Did in fact cry multiple times.

100/124 writers due at Adelaide Writers Festival have pulled out, as has sponsor, the Australia Institute. I'm loving this display of solidarity, and rejection of racism and Islamophobia.

Bendigo Writers Festival, Meanjin, now Adelaide Writers … powerful vested interests would rather destroy the cultural institutions they are supposedly responsible for than allow certain voices to be heard
Adelaide Festival board facing a stark choice: Are they willing to sacrifice the entire festival to prevent a single Palestinian-Australian author from speaking?

Hi, bushfire survivor here and NSW RFS volunteer.

If you think you are going to stay and defend your property...Don't.
You are not prepared for the intense radiant heat, the ember showers, the smoke, the collapse of all of your energy.

If you have been instructed to leave.
Leave early.

I have to say being sick while having time off work and it being over 40 degrees is an awful combination. I had such a productive few days and now this is me

Second read for the year and I read it in 24 hours. What an absolute rollercoaster, a master craft of fast pacing. Did I predict the plot? Yes. Was I entertained the whole time? Absolutely. I’m seeing the movie on Friday and I’m excited to compare them. #amreading
