I know the temptation is to just scroll past this with a “not surprised” reaction, but you should read this if you have the emotional bandwidth to encounter horrifying slurs and violent sentiments, because there’s an important takeaway: extremism is often performed to reinforce an in-group’s bond.

POLITICO: “.. They referred to Black people as monkeys and ‘the watermelon people’ and mused about putting their political opponents in gas chambers. They talked about raping their enemies .. and lauded Republicans who they believed support slavery.

Today’s cat is waiting patiently for her chance at the leftovers #CatBreak #BlueSkyCats #CatSky
A little white and black cat crouches on a light gray silicone mat arranged on a kitchen island. In front of her is a plate of partly-eaten wet cat food with a glass bowl covering it. An electric kettle boils water in the background, its blue light spectral against the black granite kitchen counters.

If not, someone on Fetlife should start it as a group

And I taste a difference

Especially for sodas

It’s just not the same

Logistics: manufacture closer to home. That’s not even, “keep our jobs here” nonsense.

Manufacturing everything thousands of miles away and then shipping it in is inefficient. It’s like driving to the grocery store on the other side of town for a ten cent sale. You spend more in gas than you save.
sethanikeem.bsky.social
Plant derived containers would be fantastic. We’re just not there yet.
sethanikeem.bsky.social
Certainly, the logistics would have to be addressed.

I’m personally in favor of reducing carbon emissions by establishing production centers closer to places of demand

It’s not even a matter of keeping jobs at home – manufacturing overseas and then shipping everything in is inefficient

My first publisher refused to allow me to use footnotes

I suffered through my three book deal with them, then left them and their ridiculous restriction behind

There is some utility as well as safety reasons to package things like shampoo in plastic (my mom had a really bad scar from dropping a glass shampoo bottle in the shower when she was a teen)

But for food? Soda? Condiments? Bottled water?

Glass. All the way.
sethanikeem.bsky.social
I go out of my way to buy things packaged in glass, but it is nearly impossible to completely avoid plastic at some point along the way from production to purchase at the grocery store
sethanikeem.bsky.social
A couple hundred years from now when we are all dust, plastic will be to the global West what lead was to the Roman Empire (lead was in their cookware &was even used as a spice because they got so used to the taste)

Future historians will be horrified how we just let it continue to poison us

We’ve got that jerky-faced crank, RFK Jr, crying about how people‘s health just ain’t the way he remembers it when he was a kid & he’s taking swings at everything from vaccines to Tylenol

But he’s too chickenshit to call out one major change in all our diets: plastic

That shit’s in everything now.

My most unhinged(?) take:

This is not just 70s nostalgia

I think we should go back to glass bottles & jars for packaging ALL pre-prepared food & drink.

Glass is near-infinitely recyclable and the improvement for both human health and the health of the environment would be significant.

Breaking: Miss Major Griffin-Gracy, the legendary transgender activist and veteran of the Stonewall uprising who dedicated her life to the liberation of trans people, especially Black trans women, has died at 78.

ICE is all over the city and burbs today, including Waukegan. Multiple reports on social media from people who have found empty work vans and are trying to locate family of their owners. This is a near daily occurrence now.

How long, do you think, before this guy is doing speaking tours with Turning Point?

"Police say Brent Jones, 26, urinated in the reflecting pool and stomped on and broke the eternal flame at the site."

A no-brainer: Pam Bondi could pretend to be a both-sides advocate of justice by staging an outraged press conference and pledging to prosecute this guy. But she won't.
Eternal flame at Martin Luther King Jr.’s Atlanta burial site destroyed
Police say the man also urinated in the reflective pool.

Thin, a bit tattered, not as strong as she once was, but still, my darling little familiar 💙🐈‍⬛
Photograph of a small black cat with tattery fur curled up on her favorite human‘s lap. An open laptop is visible in the background, its keyboard backlit in soft purples. The human extends a hand against the cat’s flank. They have a thin wrist, long fingers, and pale skin with scattered brown freckles.

So, you are absolutely working on a translation of Divinum opus de magia disciplina, right?
