I know the temptation is to just scroll past this with a “not surprised” reaction, but you should read this if you have the emotional bandwidth to encounter horrifying slurs and violent sentiments, because there’s an important takeaway: extremism is often performed to reinforce an in-group’s bond.

Logistics: manufacture closer to home. That’s not even, “keep our jobs here” nonsense.

Manufacturing everything thousands of miles away and then shipping it in is inefficient. It’s like driving to the grocery store on the other side of town for a ten cent sale. You spend more in gas than you save.

Certainly, the logistics would have to be addressed.

I’m personally in favor of reducing carbon emissions by establishing production centers closer to places of demand

There is some utility as well as safety reasons to package things like shampoo in plastic (my mom had a really bad scar from dropping a glass shampoo bottle in the shower when she was a teen)

But for food? Soda? Condiments? Bottled water?

Glass. All the way.

I go out of my way to buy things packaged in glass, but it is nearly impossible to completely avoid plastic at some point along the way from production to purchase at the grocery store

A couple hundred years from now when we are all dust, plastic will be to the global West what lead was to the Roman Empire (lead was in their cookware &was even used as a spice because they got so used to the taste)

This is not just 70s nostalgia

I think we should go back to glass bottles & jars for packaging ALL pre-prepared food & drink.

Glass is near-infinitely recyclable and the improvement for both human health and the health of the environment would be significant.

ICE is all over the city and burbs today, including Waukegan. Multiple reports on social media from people who have found empty work vans and are trying to locate family of their owners. This is a near daily occurrence now.
