My oldest kid who away at university couldn't be with us today BUT, this kid of mine put together a thanksgiving dinner with a bunch of people. My kid made the turkey and it looks so good. My kid is gonna be okay.

I'm speaking as an *expert*

This is 100% a sexual kink.

The chocolate tart turned out to be a favourite with everyone. Especially with raspberries and cream.

There does come a moment mid-cooking when I think, "oh shit... I am in over my head. How is this going to come together?"
I usually need to sit down, drink a glass of water and look at the puzzle of it all. Then I keep going. "do I have enough butter?"

I tell myself, "hey no rush. Dinner will happen, people are patient." and somehow I have this homing beacon that allows me to turn out dinner bang on time. Even when I cook multiple dishes with a million components.

My nephew: Are you a girl or a boy?
Me: a boy, I used to look more like a girl but then I turned into a boy
Nephew: How???
Me: I went to the doctor and they gave me some medicine
Nephew: …
Nephew, bragging now: I’M a boy and I didn’t even HAVE to go to the doctor

I found this cranberry & clementine stuffing mix at Sainsbury. I decided to augment it by adding some crumbled home-made cornbread. Then I cooked up leeks and shredded parsnip in butter & fresh thyme and added that to everything along w/ veg stock, so I can make vegetarian stuffing balls.

If you are cooking Thanksgiving dinner, you are going to be washing your hands even more than usual and that can dry out your pretty paws. I am a BIG fan of Neutrogena Norwegian formula hand cream. Am I a "brand ambassador"? No. I am a lady who spent years in jobs that dried out my hands.

Working on the next dessert. It won't be fancy but I am hoping it will be reliable. Then I am going to watch "Home for the Holidays". Me and 11 other people saw it when it was in the theaters. We still exchange holiday cards.

They need to get back together… and leave us alone
So Olivia Nuzzi is clearly a piece of shit who can never work in journalism again after this.

And, also, Ryan Lizza is clearly a piece of shit who should never work in journalism again after this either.

We're all agree on that, right?

Once upon a time I would have done some self-destructive stuff to get a kind of dopamine hit from life. Right now? I am trying out a recipe I have never tried before. I am hoping it might make a good dessert for Thanksgiving. I tell other people not to do this but I know I can get away with it.

someone the other day tried to tell me that I'm obviously a millionaire

from a bird cartoon
Just saw someone claim that authors who want to be paid for their work are "class traitors" because we "only let the wealthy" read our books, and I think I need to go into the woods to scream into the night for a bit.

It's $5, not your first-born child! I need that $5 for health insurance!

Very helpful.
I've talked a little about In This Family before. It's a show I produce and we made a mini-sode about not going bananas when surrounded by family at the holidays with the attendant pressures, grudges, and politics.
