Safe streets for cyclists, pedestrians and better transit make cities better for everyone.

There's finally been an update on the @hydroottawa.bsky.social Outage Map. The outage is now down to the areas north/south of Meadowlands Drive, which means much of Parkwood Hills. This is a common occurrence, including a lot of lower-income multi-unit housing. Let me know if your power is out.

A friend found a DVD copy of a movie I did way back in 1999. I was one of the leads - a group of misfits who kidnap Tori Spelling. Now it’s lining the shelves at a used movie/bookstore.

Yet all those car commecials say their cars can handle anything winter can throw at them.
Winter makes a city’s transportation priorities extra obvious:

Bikelane: nonexistent on this street

Sidewalk: covered in snow with a caregiver getting a major workout pushing a stroller through

Street: perfectly cleared for drivers

We can and should do better @minneapolismn.gov .

The fact that the button wasn’t originally installed by the city with accessibility in mind is shameful. Kudos to the students for stepping in and coming up with a solution.

This is why the city installed an oversized pedestrian crossing button
A pedestrian crossing button in west Ottawa has a unique feature, it’s physically longer than others found elsewhere in the city.

Road safety is a shared responsibility, unless you take away the safety, then all the responsibility to not die falls on you.
L.A. redesigned a road to slow traffic. People fought to reverse the safety improvements and won. Then one of the advocates hit and killed a woman walking her dog (the dog died too).

This should be a lawsuit. The city is liable along with the driver.

America’s plan to protect pedestrians failed. A young woman’s death reveals why.
U.S. officials adopted Europe's Vision Zero initiative, but many cities have seen an increase in pedestrian fatalities despite efforts to improve road safety.

Expect this to happen on ON thanks to Doug Ford.

Three drivers tried to wave us through this crossing while blocking me from view for drivers in the other lanes of travel. Even if it's safe, I often refuse to go—little eyes are watching & she needs to learn how to cross safely & not trust that cars will stop. #yycbike

Eli, rests on winter stone,
peers from cream-bound tome outside the public door—
return the Elf, and claim the reward.
December 2, 2025 at 10:08 PM
It's that time of year again.
Find Eli the Elf and bring him home to the Merry Dairy.
Twas the night before treats in Alphabet land,
With streets spelled in letters so grand.
Eli the Elf from Merry Dairy hides,
Seek high, seek low where games are played
A glint in the frost and shade!
Dash quick, while the sun shines, find Eli, and the prize is thine! 🍨🎄

Teens: Too cool to be cold.
Perils of being a feminist mom: my teen just invoked “My body, my choice” when I tried (and failed) to convince her to wear a hat in -16 windchill.

Also drivers: I never see anyone using that bike lane, let’s rip it out.

For decades, sustainable & responsible cities haven’t just been possible — they’ve been common sense, logical, ridiculously obvious! And yet we’ve failed to act. A better future through better cities is STILL possible with real leadership at every level. #ActionStartsHere @mayors4climate.bsky.social

So 4 out of the 5 had drugs in their system and all 5 had their DL's currently suspended or previously suspended?

And the Ford government thinks the e-bikes were the big issue here?

Am I the only one who thinks Ford is going to use these tragedies to ban e-bikes? www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Oh no. It gets worse. Not only do folks trying to replace a Rad Power battery included in the CPSC safety warning need to buy a replacement since Rad refused a recall, the new batteries also require a new charger, sold separately for another $60.
RadPower's product page for the Safe Shield battery says "Safe Shield batteries are compatible only with our updated Rad charger (sold separately). Warning: Do not use with older Rad Power Bikes chargers or any third-party or aftermarket chargers."
