My condolences. She sounded like such a sweetheart.

I also wonder if the GTFS feed can be a data source, it might just be plug and play like that. Idk, the Map Card docs don't say.

But likely an intermediary step (processing server) is needed

.. And then you'd read the latest processed file (JSON, perhaps) onto that widget you have there, which I assume can be codified w/ map elements, your location, etc.

Guessing you are using a Map Card? www.home-assistant.io/dashboards/m...

The map card that allows you to display entities on a map

Dang, that's super fun! I've never played w/ Home Assistant, did not consider an application for it *outside* the home (but I get it, a connection to home/family beyond the walls)

For your bus feed needs, I imagine you needs a separate server (few lines of code) to process the GTFS feed..

Love any insight into the hiring process. Netflix seems to be at or near the top echelon of engineering talent, so curious what measurements or analyses they use to determine if a candidate is a strong addition — both technically and culturally.

Maybe this is documented somewhere already in public!

I'd love to learn more about this! Sounds like you have a sort of dashboard on your bike which contains relevant information, based on your location?

Realized yesterday morning (what else would I be doing at 5am when it's dark out and no one's awake?) that the Halifax Transit Vehicle Position feed is available for anyone and you can just plot buses on a map and it's kind of fun to watch them nudge around!

An OpenStreetMap layer of Halifax and surrounding. The map contains icons (bus emoji) for each bus route. On each icon is the bus route ID and a small arrow indicating direction.

We hit up the new pump track in Eastern Passage earlier today. It’s really well done! Nice size and various skill levels supported. Kind of wish I had my own little BMX but for now it’s the kids who get to enjoy 😎

Continuing my integration as a Nova Scotian with a first attempt at green tomato chow!

A reasonable bounty of tomatoes this year but many greens and decided I wanted to tend to these now rather than wait and see if they’ll ripen.

Added some chili peppers which I’m going to over winter as well.

This is such a hilarious statement. I feel seen in it. I think I'm 50/50 infrastructure & kids across my entire photo library

Excuses from city:

Overhead lights are fine, mostly
We can’t prioritize this yet. There’s a backlog
It’s not in the budget!
Low pedestrian volumes!
Can’t slow down drivers!

Lucky anything will be done here unless someone is severely injured. It’s the Canadian way.

Happens all the time at Joe Howe / Bayers. Then drivers on the opposing intersection are trying to "sneak past" which results in erratic or non-predictable behaviour. It also blocks sight lines for pedestrians/cyclists trying to cross.

It's not only lazy/selfish but dangerous!

Train sucks but the views are good.

The only way to really make it in Halifax is to get a remote gig from an organization based in a larger metro (or the US). Or dual income + some other minor exceptions.

This is less true in places like Toronto/Vancouver with diverse employment sectors.

Gosh I miss these trails. Thank you for posting pics!

If this is a thing I'm definitely gonna snag some post-Dutch Village cleanup. I'll give the crews 5 days to clean up (later this year) :-)

Never a bad time to start! And the BikeHfx folks are helpful w/ tips, tricks, routes, & even gear!
justbartek.ca
I've heard people share similar before. There seems to be a growing market for hotels to capture demand based on folks not wanting to travel in traffic. Wild!

#BikeHfx folks should all have at minimum 6 pylons in their storage

Biked home, got back in the usual 20 minutes ;-)

Not one for unsolicited parenting advice but my approach, outside of the Nintendo Switch (older kid & his friends like to chat about BoTW etc), my kids only play old consoles. GameBoy, Nintendo DS, and 64 are classics we play atm

That era of games built patience/skill. Not convinced the new does!
