An essential development over the past decade-plus is that the ignorant went from feeling chastened when their ignorance was revealed to banding together and deciding that, actually, they were right. They might disagree at times, but they agreed that ignorance itself was an indicator of trust.

Temp fixes for both can be done in your settings:

For WhatsApp: Settings>Privacy>Advanced>Block unknown messages.

you say "i asked chatgpt"
i hear "i asked [an improv comedy group]"

an improv group wrote this report
instead of a therapist i use an improv comedy group
chatgpt is much like an improv comedy group

1) you are the audience, giving it prompts
2) it produces things roughly shaped like your prompt
3) it is trained to respond with Yes, And
4) it has the factual accuracy of improv
5) it does not understand comedy
This is fascinating: www.reddit.com/r/OpenAI/s/I...

Someone “worked on a book with ChatGPT” for weeks and then sought help on Reddit when they couldn’t download the file. Redditors helped them realized ChatGPT had just been roleplaying/lying and there was no file/book…

as I've remarked before, cyberpunk isn't 'I glitch into the webframe and draw my katana', it's 'the life of a man working for a criminal syndicate in Myanmar who spends his days pretending to be different women online to steal from the elderly'
People are dying over who gets to steal from a dude in Iowa who thinks the model who "accidentally" texted him has fallen in love with him.
the Thai-Cambodian conflict is at least partially about control of the scam/gambling/prostitution compounds along the border.

If new proposals detailed in an FDA memo are put into place, experts told me it would mean the end of annual flu shots. And end of most vaccines for pregnant people. And maybe the end of updates to pneumonia vaccines. And more.

In a way, I'd say, for all the triviality of it just being three words, it's one of the most fascist things he's done in its casual assumption of the unchallenged license to debase a human being. It's what Pasolini's SALO is about, stripped of all the graphic excess, stripped down to its core.
I don't know why the "Piggy" thing is bothering me so much. It's one more unforgivable thing in a list of 20,000 unforgivable things, but I've been mad about it for like 12 straight hours.

It's also interesting to note how this is entirely normal, it's why such as curing cancer is very difficult: that gene you're looking at almost certainly does dozens or hundreds of completely different very essential things, it's load-bearing.

It's interesting to think that when you get covid, which reactivates the EBV you almost certainly have (90% of all adults in the US have EBV), *that* reactivates a chunk of a 25 million year old retrovirus that's been hanging out in your genes.

70% of MS diagnoses are in cis women, and a large part of that is because high estrogen makes it easier for ERVW-1 to be expressed by EBV.

That little chunk of a retrovirus that infected one of your primate ancestors 25 million years ago, is still in your genome, and when it works normally it helps you give birth.

When it fucks up, it gives you multiple sclerosis

ERVW-1, when expressed at the wrong time in the wrong cells, causes multiple sclerosis.

The Epstein-Barr virus, human herpesvirus 4, turns on ERVW-1. This is how it causes MS.

That gene is ERVW-1, endogenous retrovirus group W.

Once, 25 million years ago, it helped that retrovirus evade a primate's immune system.

Now you use it so your immune system doesn't kill your embryo.

That retrovirus dumped its genes into chromosome 7. It's still there, in your genome right now.

Almost all of it's been rendered nonsense and doesn't code for anything. But it can still make Syncytin-1 for you

Fun fact: humans and other primates have a protein, Syncytin-1, essential to embryonic development. You can't give birth without it.

Humans can make Syncytin-1 because primates learned it from a retrovirus they got 25 million years ago, which left the gene for it in them.

But it was very clearly _not_ a protest. It doesn’t build power in the way that only antagonistic, confrontational protest can. We were in the Village, alongside folks in ACT UP “Silence = Death” shirts, so I got to explain what *real* protest is, in an American context, and that it has risks.
