I'm not trying to diminish anyone's shock. We are all conditioned to ignore systemic violence that is occurring all around us. When something punctures the veil, and we react, that's an essential jumping off point. I do want to challenge folks to understand the broader context, bc that's necessary.

Now that most of the country wants to abolish ICE, get ready for the goalposts to shift, so that abolish ICE becomes "reform ICE" as we get closer to the election. We have to continue pressure to make sure we really mean abolish, when we say it, otherwise we will be sold out.

I genuinely have no idea how to convey this to the American people, but I think the biggest impediment to any kind of immigration reform is that people are convinced that "legal" and "illegal" are immutable, intrinsic categories instead of a rapidly-shifting arbitrary constellation of regulations.

It really is easier than you might think to come up w/ a fundraiser idea & to execute it. You just need a little organization and a few people to help. Really, the only money we personally spent was on our own art materials (which we earned back).
I mean, yes, it's still work, but anyone could try.

I love this tactic, it increases pedestrian traffic and when there’s a fire pit, it keeps ICE watchers warm on patrol. We’ve had people in our area get nervous about blockades because it might draw attention to vulnerable neighbors, but vulnerable neighbors live everywhere.
Twin Cities rapid responders have set up a "filter blockade" at 34th and Cedar and are calling for volunteers and donations. This is a new tactic developing over the last week: community is allowed to pass, but ICE agents are stopped/slowed before they can terrorize our neighbors.
