At my great niece’s 21st party venue and I asked the landlady if I could buy some of their Menabrea beer glasses, I really liked them. Not only has she not let me pay anything, she’s having her supplier ship some directly to me. Some people are unbelievably kind.

I just can’t understand this insistence on measuring the worth of humans simply as economic units. The barista who helps their neighbour and loves their family are as much part of community than a surgeon! No society can have any value without all the people that form its component parts.
