At Davos, Trump called the liberation of Europe “stupid” & allies “ungrateful.” As a former U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council member, I find this rhetoric dangerous. It recasts the defeat of fascism as a failed real estate deal & undermines the alliances that have kept the world stable for 80 years.

Renee Good was shot 3 times by ICE

The first two shots were non lethal. One to her left forearm & another to right breast

The final shot entered the left side of her head & exited the right side

He didn’t have to keep shooting. He was out of the vehicle’s path before the kill shot

That’s murder

This is the bottom line. They will protect the money. Which is why there's a chance that the tariffs will be the other thing they don't give Trump. It's not that they care about the Constitution or the law, but they might rule against him to protect the economy.
Q: Why's the Supreme Court reluctant to let Trump fire Lisa Cook from the Fed when it has greenlit so many other illegal firings?

A: The other firings were at agencies charged with protecting workers and consumers. The Fed is charged with protecting the economy

"The lies this administration is telling about Renee Good aren’t those you deploy as part of a cover-up. They’re those you use when you want to show you can get away with anything."

That's @radleybalko.bsky.social, quoted in this piece. I say this opens door to deeper understanding of this moment:
Trump just openly declared that invoking the Insurrection Act will let him implement his immigration crackdown without going "through the court system."

That's nonsense, but it's telling: Trump *thinks* it allows him to rule like a military dictator. 1/

Sunday, at least 7 ICE agents stormed a house and took an elderly man out into the freezing cold, wearing only his underwear and a blanket.

He was a member of the Hmong community, which came to the area from Laos in the 1970s after siding with the US in the Vietnam War.

Democrats could act like a real opposition party, refusing to validate Trump malfeasance with votes, and setting up a shadow cabinet that regularly communicates how Democrats would be different. But nah.

It’s not only a majority of Democratic voters that hate this approach. US allies see it too.
The incredibly lukewarm Democratic response on Greenland is being noticed in Europe, incidentally.

Chuck Schumer not finding a stronger word than “quixotic” for Trump’s plan to seize Greenland has been name checked to me more than once.
But Americans who want to save the alliance with Europe must have no illusions about how bad a condition this transatlantic partnership is in.
