and here i think the evidence is overwhelming that the artificial scarcity of housing which presses most severely in those places that are producing the most good jobs is, in fact, pretty bad for people

The relationships between economic indicators (real wages, nominal prices, real income, etc) and economic sentiment changed fundamentally since 2021. That's the empirical reality. There are multiple theories consistent with this. We need to learn more.

This is the (IMO correct) position between "it's all vibes/tiktok" and "we/young ppl are poorer than before"

My sense is people would prefer to collectively give up some consumer goods in exchange for security or not feeling like you're falling behind peers if you take a break from the ratrace
I think the thing a lot of people are upset by is actually rather difficult to measure with economic data

Yes. This. Changing your replies to followers only makes a huge difference for larger accounts. The only "downside" is once a month or so someone who can't read/follow instructions yells "this fucker turned off comments!" at you. It's better than many more randos missing the point & yelling though.

Tragically, I still see them all the time around Silicon Valley. I drove by one the other day with my kid in our car and said "I still can't believe people buy that ugly piece of shit" forgetting that I generally don't curse in front of the kids. But it got a guffaw from the kid, who agreed...
The month the Cybertruck was released I immediately saw two of them in my part of the city, always driven by the same two guys. I was shocked. "People are actually buying this thing!"

Almost two years later, I have never seen a third.

An alarming story about Flock’s automatic license plate reader (ALPR) cameras ...

"Often, officers will search cameras nationwide even if investigating a case in their own state. Typically this is done without a warrant, something that critics like the EFF and the ACLU have recently sued over."
A massive cache of Flock lookups collated by the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) shows as many as 50 federal, state, and local agencies used Flock during protests over the last year.

W. should have said: "It's not *his* fault that I was so woefully underprepared for the presidency that I let him roll me into a stupid war. Also into the VP selection. And all the rest. That's all on me."
G.W. Bush calls Dick Cheney an “old breed” of politician defined by “character and substance,” which is dubious, but still reads as a dig.

Just absurd, wallet inspector victim-level credulity here. Humiliating and shameful.
RFK Jr had committed to Bill Cassidy, as a condition to win his vote, that he would keep website language.

Cassidy in February: “If confirmed… CDC will not remove statements on their website pointing out that vaccines do not cause autism.”

Note the language in second photo.

If you're trying to convince your friends to spend time on Bluesky rather than X, maybe show them this. X is not "the public town square" or about "free speech." It's "just what Elon Musk wants you to see." If you see stuff he doesn't like he'll step in to make sure you don't see it for long.
If you scroll on X, you are only being shown what Elon wants you to see. If you create content on X, no one will see it unless Elon wants them to.
