Printing a totally normal number of whistles. Thanks again to Protopasta for donating this gorgeous red filament to the cause.

I've been working on getting documents translated to help people understand how the whistles are used in community action. I created this linktree to help people who want to support the work.

Whistles are now WMDs, according to the "high IQ" crowd.

Me (every time I hear fireworks outside) Is this it? Did it happen?

The answer: Always sportball.

I second this. The pastel unicorn filament that someone sent me is making the most beautiful whistles. I love imagining people sorting through them to find their very own, when my shipments arrive with the community groups who requested them!
And again, I would like to personally thank everyone who has sent anyone filament. Having beautiful colors show up on our porches with encouraging messages gives our printers joy & resolve that lets us pass that long to the people who most need support right now. 💓

As someone who started out as a journalism major, this statement is so very true.
A reminder to the news media: “conflicting accounts” is what you say BEFORE the incontrovertible video evidence appears. After that, your job is to ask why one side is lying, not to repeat the lie and pretend no one knows the truth.

I must not discourse.
Discourse is the mind-killer.
Discourse is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face the discourse.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.

Another question I came here with was: how effective are the whistles and honking? Does it stop abductions? And the answer is, surprisingly to my cynical self, yes, and often. I have talked to so many people who have successfully interrupted kidnappings.

I've been printing whistles to send to communities, and it has honestly changed my whole outlook. After months of feeling like there's little I can do, this feels like *something*

If you need whistles or want to help, get in touch!

Protopasta is literally the best - they make my favorite filament in the world and also are working to be a force for good.

Their experimental filaments are so much fun - they did a conductive one, they have thermal color changing ones, metals - lots of really fun stuff. Check them out!
Also huge shout out to ProtoPasta (who I do not believe is on this website) because they have now shipped stacks of filament to multiple members of our group, completely for free, just to support this cause. 💓

If you're a fan, thank them for being awesome!

A coworker took this from her apartment. I haven't seen a crowd this size before. Maybe the first Women's March? But it was much much warmer that day. ICE OUT OF MINNESOTA!

My daughter is a game dev. I try not to interfere creatively...

She finally asked me to voice a character in one of her games this week *and* I got to die on mic.

I just got official word that I nailed my character in the first try, and never has any acceptance been quite so sweet. 🥰

We had no car and not enough money for a tree one year, so I convinced my children that we would just make a paper tree. We worked all day on it. Meanwhile, their Dad managed to get a hold of a few dollars, took the bus to the tree lot and carried the tree for miles on his back to surprise us!
#WriteStuff Q6: Let’s use those holidays to our advantage. What’s one wacky holiday moment from your past that would make a killer scene in your WIP or a knockout flash “fiction”?

The idea that you have to travel to make core memories is ridiculous. One of my kids' most beloved and meaningful childhood memories involved the three of us, crawling into a giant blanket fort to do their schoolwork while eating Halloween candy together. Love is what they remember. (And candy)
I’m gonna need influencers to stop opining on core memories.

“You only make core memories on vacation, so if you’re a poor, your kids aren’t making them,” can go SOAL (step on a Lego).

For whatever weird reason, Bean with Bacon has long been my comfort food. Last night, I pulled out a bunch of ingredients and made my own Bean w/ Bacon soup, and I'm happy to report that I would never go back, even if there wasn't some nasty shit in Campbells. It is so much better and not that hard.

You *could* ask ChatGPT, but that will never match the feeling of sending a random question about space physics at 9am to the person in your world who understands these things best and happens to be your 20 year old daughter.

I'm just saying.

In nicer conversation, we're planning a "handmade holiday" this year (my kids are 20 and 22) where we just hang out and make stuff together, which is pretty wonderful (and affordable since I have tons of maker supplies already on hand!)

This is so bizarre. Who is out there spending more than usual this year? I just pulled my family together to tell them that our holiday spending this year will need to be $0. I'd love to believe it's just me and that people around me are flush with holiday cash, but I just don't see it.

In my day job, I teach how to run a better construction project. Over 8 weeks, we teach several software tools.

This cohort, every. single. tool. we use has failed to work in some significant way, mostly Microsoft, all related in some way to the addition of AI. Tell me again how this is working.
