Mike Johnson speaks out against the use of judicial warrants in immigration cases:

"Imagine if we had to go through the process of getting a judicial warrant"

This is preying on my mind a bit. Jeffrey Epstein was not primarily a British scandal! So far we've removed a Prince from the Royal family, fired our US ambassador who was one of the most important political figures of the last few decades and banned the CEO of Barclays from the financial industry..
One by one, Europeans mentioned in the Epstein files who still hold political office are beginning to resign or are being forced out of office.

Meanwhile, ruled by an administration almost entirely made up of Epstein associates, the US carries on as if nothing really happened.

when we talk about de-escalation, my brain always goes back to cops in the UK who dealt with a guy with a knife by hemming him in with herby curbies.
American copaganda is so successful that a staggering number of people genuinely believe that all LEOs are not only entitled to shoot to kill at the slightest show of disobedience or the mildest perceived threat, but that they'd be foolish not to: that of COURSE this is how it works.

Let’s be clear — if Trump doesn’t end up invading Greenland, or doesn’t end up doing any other of his seemingly unlimited batshit insane, illegal and corrupt crimes, it WON’T be “evidence that we were overreacting.” It will ONLY be BECAUSE WE DIDN’T UNDER-REACT.

👇🎯 Today class, we will once again discuss “revealed preferences”

Whatever the last decade of 🇨🇳 hysteria was, it sure as hell wasn’t really about winning a new Cold War, or the “🇨🇳 hawks” would be everywhere right now losing their stuff over Trump’s immigration, trade, security, & higher ed policies
if it was all just a scam, then going forward it is just going to be really hard for me to take seriously the notion of china hawk stuff being in good faith

The largest infrastructure projects currently being built in the US appear to be data centers and detention centers. The AI boom has coincided with ICE becoming the most heavily funded government agency. It's hard not to see a connection: This is the architectures of digital fascism

Plans for such centers and jails in nearly two dozen communities have sparked protests over suitability, proximity to homes and schools.

The liberal squish who wrote the majority opinion in that case? Justice Antonin Scalia:

Part of what’s changed about particle physics is that the romance between the military industrial complex and particle physicists ended — kind of. They’re trying to reboot it using AI as the staging ground. Beware narratives that tell you AI is the only or most important path forward.

The biggest risk did particle physics right now isn’t that we are out of ideas. We published thousands of pages of ideas!!!!!!!

The biggest risk is an approach to science that says it must serve capitalist industry and/or militarized “national security“ or it’s not worth funding.

This is unconscionable. Evil.

But it happened in May 2023, when Biden was president.

So no, we don’t “reform immigration detention,” we destroy ICE, CBP, and DHS. We can’t reform this soul sickness.
Anadith Danay Reyes Álvarez died in government custody.

She had sickle cell and congenital heart disease but couldn’t access timely and adequate medical care.

We need to reform immigration detention.

But some city leaders, including DA Larry Krasner, have a plan to scare off ICE. I think it would work — if the mayor will allow it.
