credit to my friends at Insaltd, who created their electrolyte mix as a Stevia-free competitor to LMNT (who we are all boycotting because they are also fanboys of, eww, RFK, Jr.). their lemon ginger flavor is really good hot.

oh wow. I just discovered a sugarfree sweetener that actually tastes good in hot tea: the amino acid glycine. I'm fine with Splenda in coffee and iced tea, but it's gross in hot tea, and so is Stevia.

this tastes like sweet without bitter and dissolves beautifully.

This is another thing that irritates me about folks criticizing immigrant, marginalized, & impoverished folk for using services like Amazon & Instacart like theyre luxuries.

Theyre the closest thing we have to accessible! The world has been made too dangerous for many of us to BE out in it.

Thinking about how much of their violence has been normalized already, how scenes that caused shockwaves 6 weeks ago are now part of the rhythm of daily life. Watched a TikTok from a daughter who has to do her parents' laundry & get their groceries because they're in hiding. This is just it now

did the original Reading Rainbow have "reading comprehension" multiple choice questions, or is that new?

This is disturbing and creepy for so many reasons, but it’s also bizarre how much of a push there is for people to ignore listening to their own bodies and instead outsource those decisions to flawed technology.

also, they look best when they hang open and move, and also when they are roomy enough to drape, not two sizes too small.

Hey look, Israel broke the cease-fire, twice, in two different ways, within 24 hours - again.

NEW: Israel informed the UN it will permit only 300 aid trucks into Gaza daily, not the 600 mandated by the ceasefire it just signed.

If one knows Hawaii, this article he wrote about Hawaii is absolutely devastating toward him and the many ways he is being told to fuck off by locals. I love it because he wrote it in such clueless, arrogant self absorption.

For people who claim to be heterodox, they all sure seem to agree with each other a whole lot.

It's the same thing with Bari Weiss. A bunch of mediocrities who get away with hack work by pretending that being expected to show your work and defend your findings is the same thing as being canceled.

Once again struck by how many prominent "heterodox" thinkers split off and create their own institutions not because of academic censoriousness but because no one who closely examines their methodology can possibly take them seriously.

Just gonna leave this here.
In survey data, LGBT young people report consistently worse mental health than heterosexual young people.
Whether this is because LGBT causes mental illness (i.e. the minority stress or anomie hypotheses), or because
mental illness causes individuals to be LGBT is beyond the scope of this work.2

One of the guys in the local Buddhist group I went to years ago was essentially starving himself. It was a weird blend of ascetisism and a desire to extend his life based on experiments that calorie limited mice live longer. Looked like an eating disorder to me.

Oh good, ChatGPT is getting "erotica for verified adults" later this year
We made ChatGPT pretty restrictive to make sure we were being careful with mental health issues. We realize this made it less useful/enjoyable to many users who had no mental health problems, but given the seriousness of the issue we wanted to get this right.

Now that we have been able to mitigate the serious mental health issues and have new tools, we are going to be able to safely relax the restrictions in most cases.

In a few weeks, we plan to put out a new version of ChatGPT that allows people to have a personality that behaves more like what people liked about 4o (we hope it will be better!). If you want your ChatGPT to respond in a very human-like way, or use a ton of emoji, or act like a friend, ChatGPT should do it (but only if you want it, not because we are usage-maxxing).

In December, as we roll out age-gating more fully and as part of our “treat adult users like adults” principle, we will allow even more, like erotica for verified adults.
