4 yrs ago today, a family member managed a truly spectacular own goal, splintered his domestic bliss, & in the process, united the world for a day.

On popular request, I shall now recreate the livetweet thread from that day

So gather around children, for this is the tale of The Rice Truck Saga

Two Democratic legislators were shot, along with their spouses.

Even their dog was shot.

One had to dive on top of their child to protect them.

Trump didn’t attend the funeral. There was no widespread condemnation of political violence.

The culture must change and gun control is long overdue
For everyone saying political violence has no place in this country…

Remember two Democratic legislators were shot in Minnesota just this year.

And America shrugged and moved on.

Here's the actual impact.

I get that this was a rock and a hard place vote, but doing something that hands the current administration plus their unelected cronies more power is the worse choice in the long run.

These are the members of the Senate Democratic caucus who just voted to pass the GOP's Trump-backed budget bill, along with the year that they next go before voters—including primary voters.

I don’t know why I didn’t expect both NY senators to cave. Utterly pathetic.
The final tally to advance the CR is 62-38.

The Democrats who voted for cloture, giving Donald Trump everything he wants:

Cortez Masto (NV)
Durbin (IL)
Fetterman (PA)
Gillibrand (NY)
Hassan (NH)
Peters (MI)
Schatz (HI)
Schumer (NY)
Shaheen (NH)

be crystal, crystal clear about this:

this is their CR to own as much as the GOP’s. the GOP didn’t have the votes to pass it, and these people gave them the votes.

everything else is bullshit spin.

it's truly impossible to explain to people in other nations how propagandized our "free" country is. americans are basically indoctrinated into a nationwide cult from birth. im not making excuses for americans but pretty much every time you wonder why something is/isn't happening it's bc of the cult
I’m convinced American exceptionalism is a big part of what made us vulnerable to Trump. We’re so used to thinking of ourselves as the Special Freedom Country that a lot of people find it inconceivable we could rapidly collapse into shabby despotism even as they watch it happen.
Real talk. I’ve lost all belief in American exceptionalism. There is no secret Liberty Sauce that makes us inherently better. We’re just human beings (derogatory). But it also means we’re human beings (laudatory), so I refuse to believe Republicans won politics forever and can rule as god kings.

KEEP CALLING. PEEL OFF ALL DEM SENATORS YOU CAN.

☎️: (202) 224-3121

Tell them to vote NO on Cloture and NO on CR. Vote is pushed to after 1:15ish for now. Situation is fluid.

The only public YES votes are Schumer and Fetterman. They need 7-8 total. KEEP CALLING.

Call retiring Senators too!

CALLS ARE WORKING - it has bought us precious time, but we NEED to keep the pressure up.

Tomorrow is the cloture vote.

KEEP CALLING: (202) 224-3121 ☎️☎️☎️

Tell your Dem Senator to vote NO on Cloture and NO on the Republican spending bill.

Do NOT assume your Senator will be good on this. Trust me.
🚨 Everyone needs to call their Dem Senator right now. They are starting to cave.

Tell them:
1. Vote NO on Cloture
AND
2. Vote NO on the Republican spending bill.

Don’t let them pivot to reconciliation. GOP doesn’t need Dem votes on that and they know it.

TODAY is the showdown.
