A legal asylum-seeker who works at Chipotle and plays music at a church in Maine went missing. His pastor searched and searched, eventually finding his abandoned car with the keys on the floor.

ICE grabbed him. No criminal record. No explanation.

I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.

please remember that no matter how many “ICE is losing in MN” articles you read today, there is still a very real, urgent, ongoing crisis in Minnesota.

people need food and they need rent money. that has not changed.

lmao if you step back from inhabiting this horror for a sec, it's genuinely hilarious that he tried to step into an ongoing battle about fascism with the words "Here's a podcast"

bruh
Here’s a podcast that does a good job of laying out what’s at stake, and why all of us need to get off the sidelines to demand change.

You see this sort of argument a lot, but it doesn't make sense to me. If ICE is fully funded outside of the normal appropriations process, then how do the Dems have the leverage to demand even these reforms?
Dems do not have a majority and ICE has $75 billion outside of normal appropriations that it can spend even if DHS shuts down. Some of these asks would make actual, tangible difference (the warrant requirement being a huge one to correct an egregious illegality), but it wouldn't stop ICE in general.
Dems coalescing around 5 restrictions on ICE, I'm told:

DHS required to cooperate with state probes (big)
CBP stays at border
warrants for arrests
IDs, bodycams
ICE out of churches, schools

"That package unites a lot of Dems," Sen Chris Murphy tells me on the pod:

Waking up today I felt borderline euphoric. With no leadership and no institutional buy-in the people shut down economic activity, defended their neighbors, and ended a fascist's career. None of those things were supposed to happen, but regular people decided they should, so they did. Incredible!
Minnesota staged a general strike, defended itself against a pogrom in the absence of elected leadership, and got an einsatzgruppenführer fired. That unfamiliar feeling is actual, honest-to-god people power.

how is this the opposition party??? literally none of this would've made any substantive difference in what we've experienced over the past year in chicago, minneapolis, LA, portland etc. worse than useless — in practice it's complicit

Cannot repeat the Obama-era dodge of saying "we tortured some folks" and not holding accountable the torturers and especially the chain of command. You want to stop state-sanctioned crimes? Trials not words are the only way.
Bovino’s retirement needs to be a cage. His command environment yielded Renee Good’s death, Alex Pretti’s death & Julio Sosa-Celis’ shooting. Failure to prosecute Bovino & everyone else materially responsible for these atrocities will be understood by ICE, CBP, etc as a green light for the next ones

ICE murdered Renée Good in broad daylight. Less than 3 weeks later, they killed Alex Pretti, shooting him 10 times. Every day, we watch as people are ripped from their cars, their homes, their lives.

We can't allow ourselves to look away from this cruelty. Abolish ICE.

Pay attention to a key propaganda tactic in moments of public unrest. Officials will say things that suggest they care about whatever outrages the public, but it's carefully designed to not commit them to structural changes. Pacify-->distract-->wait-->resume business as usual.
The Democrats cannot even bring themselves to talk about reducing the ICE budget (which was TRIPLED out of the blue and no one knows how exactly such sums could ever be spent even on the vast network of concentration camps and private contractors) to, say, its already-record 2024 levels.

In October, ICE grabbed Maher Tarabishi.

He was a 24/7 caregiver for his disabled son Wael.

At the time of Maher’s detention, disability advocates warned that taking away Wael’s caregiver put his life at risk.

Wael died on Friday at age 30.

ICE caused his death.

They didn’t get to say goodbye.
Disabled son of ICE detainee dies after 30 days of hospitalization
It had been months since Wael Tarabishi seen his father. The family is calling on ICE to release Maher Tarabishi so he may attend his son's funeral.
