🚨New publication alert!

We just published a brief on what happens to parenting students' chances of success in college when they are threatened with eviction. The results are devastating. I have never cried when writing up research before. I did this time.

Ousted from Opportunity: Eviction's Adverse Impact on Parenting College Students
New America partnered with the Eviction Lab to understand how eviction affects parents who are attending college while caring for children—and found it likely leads to severe negative consequences.

And why should someone have to bear the cost of food delivery? Or be restricted to Walmart? And how did this become specifically about Atlanta? So many goal posts.

Anyway delivery is not an adequate replacement for a physical store in accessible proximity of where one lives.
Walmart+ costs $13/mo and gives free delivery on orders over $35.

You can get fresh produce in any 'food desert' near-ish to a Walmart, which includes all of Atlanta.
When you are talking about a food desert, the market is definitionally not providing access to food because there is…no store.

The market does provide it. The reason private stores aren't selling fresh produce nearby is that not enough ppl want it (or rather, want it badly enough to pay what it actually costs to produce and deliver)--even when the federal govt is helping cover the bill via EBT.

Poor ppl have agency, too!
People need food. Market won’t provide it. Government should. It’s literally the whole point.

Don, did you listen to the AI?

Now I have poked some fun at Don

There are probably good places where AI adoption can improve things, but the uncritical adoption of untested AI tools is not how we figure out where AI can help, versus where it dumbs things down

Is Using AI to learn making you bad at giving advice to friends?

New piece for @forbes.com on research into how using AI to learn about a new topic impacts learning, and the ability to give someone else useful advice based on what you learn.

Does Using AI Make You Worse At Giving Advice?
New Research suggests that using AI to learn about new things leads to shallow learning, and poor quality advice to friends if you learned the topic using AI.

We are on track to lose $12.5 billion in tourism spending for 2025.
National parks have SO MANY people from other countries (since they get real vacations!)

And they spend a lot of money on hotels, food, souvenirs, etc.

This is unbelievably dumb, it will destroy entire tourist towns

ED sliding past the real concern, which are Nurse practitioner programs.
ED is feeling enough pressure about the graduate vs. professional program distinction that they put out a press release (correctly) stating that nursing was never technically classified as professional. This probably won't gain much traction with the general public.
Myth vs. Fact: The Definition of Professional Degrees
President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act placed commonsense limits on federal student loans for graduate degrees. This fact sheet sets the record straight regarding the proposed treatment of nursi...

The Trump administration inherited an economy that the Economist called "the envy of the world" in a cover story a week before the election and easily could've coasted on that success (again) but instead they set it on fire.
