Dear US federal agents, the 1765 case of Entick v Carrington on warrants being required to enter properties was decided *before* your revolution and so forms part of your common law too.

A quaint, wrong but influential opinion has long circulated in London (and elsewhere): that British capitalism is purer and less "corporatist" than its continental counterparts. The Mandelson scandal ought to be the final nail in that particular coffin.

Presenting mass expulsions and ethnic cleansing as just a policy in the same way as putting a penny on income tax is in itself abhorrent. As the bill is worded, we are talking about capturing and exiling hundreds of thousands of innocent people, many ripped out of families that stay behind.
