A US measuring cup is 236.588 ml because it just is.

I agree. X is now a cesspit flooded with accounts provoking ethnic hatred, fear of vaccination and opposition to green policies. It looks highly orchestrated, most likely be enemies of democracy and peace in the west.
The UK and the EU need to ban X, and ban it yesterday.
Once again Elon Musk has stoked far right violence in Ireland or England.

The naffness is the appeal. It makes naff people feel better about themselves.

Dem, was Frau Türk-Neubaur hier sagt, ist nichts hinzuzufügen.
People without a racist obsession are hardly going to notice either way.

Angus: Canada is reconsidering that relationship with China. Why? Because we can no longer trust the US.

And we know that we have 150, maybe more, Canadians in custody at ICE detention centers. We had two Canadians under Chinese custody and it caused a huge outcry. We now have over 150 in the US.
Absent a deal, Brits in EU would have become 3rd country nationals subject to the existing rules in each member. EU in UK would have been subject to whatever the UK govt decided to please the Daily Mail.
That’s the thing. The UK hadn’t registered EU citizens. FoM was their whole status. And it wanted to use the fate of EU citizens as leverage in parts of the negotiations relating to completely different things.
Also residents in the EU had acquired rights under national law through length of residency. The WA is an improvement over that but does not retain full pre-Brexit rights. It is much more important for EU citizens in the UK.
Once had a black cocker with a suspected admixture of poodle. No expert on chemistry, but there is no way dog food contains that much energy.
What the USA lacks is even more bad taste. I feel they have not realised their full potential and there are still pockets of good taste.
Presenting mass expulsions and ethnic cleansing as just a policy in the same way as putting a penny on income tax is in itself abhorrent. As the bill is worded, we are talking about capturing and exiling hundreds of thousands of innocent people, many ripped out of families that stay behind.
75 effing quid when you can get xenophobic rants free down the pub.
That is why a Reform majority in the Commons produced by FPTP with a population dead set against would be so explosive when the far-right party inevitably starts dismantling democracy.
Indeed, people were not so much looked after as looked after themselves. Some people had to renounce UK citizenship to adopt that of the country where they live. They lost something but prioritised what is important.
The media could just as well spin an unstoppable momentum narrative around the breakup of the UK if they wanted.
Media that are more motivated in their distortions by sensation than sympathy for fascism should be making hay with the sensation of a prospective breakup of the UK.
Surely the prospect of Welsh independence is as sensational to hacks as the prospect of fascist Britain?
It’s not a race of equally good choices. With the experience of Orban, Erdogan, Trump etc., we know that the chance that Farage would not attempt to end democracy is vanishingly small.
It would also greatly shrink the economy and leave many services no longer provided.
It’s almost not worth working out how many millions of people they would intend to capture and exile and how many more millions of friends and family members would be left behind. The attempt would require violent authoritarian govt and end British democracy. It’s just crime in the guise of politics
A democracy in which two far-right parties poll over 40% together is not necessarily everyone’s idea of civilised.
It owes its freedom to other countries, but Belgium is not universally grateful for its existence.
They put anybody in Guantanamo who bounty hunters brought to them. I doubt very much that the boats they are blowing up are all smuggling drugs. They just want explosions and corpses in the water for entertainment on TV.
