A magical matchmaker who looks like Lady Moff Tarkin brings together coastal deli dynasties with the help of Lisa Loeb and a doorman so two cloned Bubbes can fight over potatoes in an almost anthropologically Jewish Hallmark movie.

A fine day to remember Jim Harbaugh's unique relationship with "The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald" and the remarkable interpretive work that his and other football brains have done on this important text. The Edmund Fitzgerald Is Inspiring Jim Harbaugh And Michigan Football To Achieve "Lake Mindset" | Defector
The popular culture of the 1970s is almost impossible to parse in retrospect. The people making the movies and music and television of the era were horny and ambitious and earnest, they were ingesting...

I keep seeing regular Americans taking more risks every day to fight tyranny, want, and cynicism than I see from the opposition party, and I imagine many of those regular Americans are asking themselves what the value proposition of such an opposition party is, really

They caved in March so they could get a better deal now. They’re caving now so they can get a better deal in some indeterminate future. The better deal is always just beyond their reach, but continuing to cave will get them there. And if you don’t agree with that, you don’t understand Politics,

One of the first stories I ever wrote for money was for a trade magazine called Dermatology Business Management. It was a feature on FSA/HSA back when they were new. Every public health person I talked to was like "bad idea, also badly designed." That was like 20 years ago.
"A development that appeared to break the logjam: Republicans proposed that healthcare funding be provided directly to households rather than used to pay for a 1-year extension of ACA subsidies. That involves sending federal money into FSAs instead of insurance companies" www.wsj.com/politics/pol...
Republicans Pitch Alternative to ACA Extension to End Government Shutdown
A proposal by GOP senators to send money directly to consumers’ health accounts rather than to insurance companies showed signs of breaking a stalemate on negotiations.

In the abstract it's good that NYC still has some 1985-style rich guys, where it's just some potato-shaped blowhard dunce who owns a bunch of parking garages or some shitty family business everyone hates. That scene shouldn't all be hedge fund "poker guys" or whatever. But the 1985 guys suck, too.

there's something sort of perversely satisfying that even these yale investment banker freaks get their marching orders from a brain dead bubble boy who thinks there's some kind of "walmart report" and have to go out there and ape him by saying the most feeble childlike lies
Bessent shamelessly lies: "Inflation came down in April for the first time in four years under President Trump...Walmart came out yesterday and said the Thanksgiving meal is 25% less." (Inflation fell steadily in the last two years of the Biden administration and Walmart is making the meals smaller)

A troubled recording, a long production odyssey guided by the belief that it was worth the effort, a star-studded cast—if there is such a thing as the Megalopolis Of Hallmark Podcast Episodes, this is it. (The movie is fine, the episode is quite good.)

like how little do you think of americans that “daily videos of masked men terrorizing children and tearing families apart” is an issue you don’t touch because you think you’re going to lose on it. that’s insane
again find it bizarre that national dem leaders avoid the topic of ICE even on here but have time to congratulate an unpopular former speaker on their retirement from insider trading at 85

This is so cool. Putting on formal dress and standing around on a Thursday night talking about how dope the president is. Laughing in unison at stuff that isn't quite a joke. It's on TV so everyone can watch and think about how fun it'd be to be there, doing that, too. Cash bar. No food of any kind.
