Think about this. Did you hear trans panic headlines in the 2000s? No.

Conservatives weren’t “worried” about trans people until the day they lost on Marriage Equality.

Once they realized most of us are just fine with gay marriage, they needed a new wedge issue and started attacking trans people.
I’m rewatching Mad About You & theres a joke where Ursula the ditzy waitress mistakes a recurring character for a post-op trans woman and immediately talks about how great she looks now, then deadnames her as part of a running joke at Ursula’s expense. In 1995. The great trans scare is manufactured.

I'm really impressed that Chicago City won TWO World Series in 2016, doing even better than the Washington Dodgers that year.

The magic of Rob Reiner is when someone says he was the best to ever do it, they could be talking about like 8 different things.

Rob Reiner: I'm going to make a coming of age drama, a fantasy adventure story, a romantic comedy, a psychological horror and then a courtroom drama.

Us: Across your entire career?

Reiner: In a 6 year period.

Us: That sounds-

Reiner: -Each one will be arguably the best movie in that genre.

This is a photo from the Vanity Fair article. Notice how they have to arrange it so Stephen Miller is on the end, so it isn’t obvious that there is no reflection of him on the mirrored table.🧛

One of the biggest moments of my career:
USCIS canceled my client’s naturalization oath ceremony. We filed a lawsuit, went to trial, and the judge swore him in right there in the courtroom!

I was skeptical, but he makes a surprisingly good point.
I don't know, Aaron. I think we need to take this seriously. In fact, after surveying hundreds of years of history in the past few days, I've written an article assessing the originalist case here:

Also we've fetishized "debate” in these spaces as some kind of civic good, when what matters is competence, trust, shared purpose. Medicine, engineering, boardrooms aren’t organized around debate or requirements of false balance. We've poisoned public discourse by insisting it be adversarial.

this is similar to what I've come to think of as the "reverse turing test"

when people find synthetic text is "good enough" to complete a task (homework, business report, email) it doesn't mean the machine is smart. it means they were asked to produce something that didn't matter

it's diagnostic
So similarly, when we see people who prefer ChatGPT or a similar synthetic text extruding machine as a source of medical information, that means those are people who are under-served in the current system.

It is an absolutely delightful irony that the richest man in the world is universally acknowledged to be a huge fucking loser who not a single living person envies in any way at all
Remember folks: if you have any small amount of artistic talent, any sex appeal, or can make your friends laugh, the richest man on earth is crying screaming throwing up because he can’t be you.

Oh yeah. I'm very much Team Reading. Sorry; I won't watch your video or listen to your podcast. It takes too long.

I'm sure what you have to say is very interesting and informative, but if you want ME to know about it, give me a properly-edited transcript.
I saw a meme last night about a generational divide marker of folks who cannot sit through videos and want the words typed out because they read faster than they can watch a video and I felt that deep in my heart. I'm happy for folks who love video, but I hate them. Give me text. Let me read.

Y'know, I've always wanted a place with a coat bath. And the laundry room/mud room/coat closet with two bathtubs and two sinks could be useful in ... well, situations that don't spring to mind at the moment, but I'm certain could exist.

But I'd really like an entry option other than the garage.
