It's also the sort of implication that writing is a boring rote task that we wish we didn't have to spend time on. Writing is the joy! It's the fucking expression! Aaaaargh
Went to the dentist, and explained that I'm writing some dialogue for a game.

"Just get ChatGPT to do it!" she said, cheerily.
I replied "And how would you feel if I brushed my teeth according to ChatGPT's instructions?"
"Um, it would probably be fine? Don't use it for facts"

Christ we're fucked.

if you're ever Photoshopping your own face into the smoke of the Twin Towers, Adobe should have a pop-up that says "are you sure that whatever it is you're doing is a good idea"

It's the anniversary of the kinect, is it? Then it's also the anniversary of me leaving the games industry. Working on a kinect game was like being in an episode of the twilight zone

I was sort of quietly staggered by GK3. I'm a 90s adventure nerd and knew the famous Old Man Murray takedown of GK3 and expected it to be a total pile of crap. Instead it's kind of an insane masterpiece that deserves to be recognised for what it tried to do rather than what it got wrong
For adventure gamers who remember The Old Ways: this is a nice critique of early 2000s gamer snark. Gabriel Knight 3 had some really good bits, and adventure games didn't die - big American publishers just stopped selling them. (The cat moustache puzzle was genuinely bad, though.)
It wasn't Gabriel Knight 3's cat mustache puzzle that killed "adventure games." They never died, even if the industry killed off Sierra On-line. www.endlessmode.com/video-games/...

David and Larry Ellisons’ sloptastic vision for Hollywood is coming into focus:

“Paramount has reportedly signed a $200M+ multiyear deal for Higgsfield AI to use mass-use Popcorn AI model that ingests dailies and script notes, then outputs regional cuts: new leads, alternate jokes, revised endings”

Most of the internet used to be like this. This is actually the default, it took companies enclosing the internet and adding weird, soul-killing incentives to make people behave the way they do now. In a way, there is truly nothing special about Wikipedia except that it survived longer.
“Wikipedia is this economic anomaly. In many ways, it’s sort of magical that people will just volunteer without explicit economic incentives to create artifacts that are meant to share knowledge with everyone in the world”

It’s just such heartbreaking news that I can’t really find the words, there won’t ever be another like him. Geezer, Bill and myself have lost our brother.

My thoughts go out to Sharon and all the Osbourne family. Rest in peace Oz. Tony

One of the absolute pillars of the adventure game community, Roberta Vaughan, is facing a very serious medical crisis. I won't get into what it is but trust me, it's bad.

If you have the means, please consider donating to this medical fund organized by ex-Sierra designer Josh Mandel.

I finally got the Vinegar Syndrome release of THE KEEP because I've wanted to see it for twenty years. Wow, it's so close to brilliance, you can really imagine how good it would be if Mann had final cut and they'd finished the special effects. Still has some stunning imagery and is loads of fun
